So... Felix

Post#1 » by TTown » Mon Sep 6, 2010 6:52 pm

2nd in the majors in ERA, 1st in K's, 1st in quality starts, 2nd in IP... THIRTY FIFTH IN WINS.

He's 2nd in the AL in ERA (2.30 to Clay Buccholz's 2.25), 1st in K's, 1st in quality starts, 1st in IP... TWENTIETH IN WINS.

Where does Felix end up in Cy Young voting? Voters love wins, though I abhor the statistic regarding pitchers. Absolute best case scenario, Felix wins his 4 (?) remaining starts and ends 2010 15-10. If he passes Buccolz in ERA and can maybe put some distance between them, what are the odds Felix pulls a Zach Greinke and wins the award behind a dynamite ERA (Greinke was 2.16) and not a stellar W/L record (16-8)? Tim Lincecum won the NL award last year at 15 wins (15-7).

Is it a pipe dream? Any chance voters pass over CC (19-5, 3.02), Price (16-6, 2.92), and Buccolz (15-6, 2.25) for Felix? Trevor Cahill has been outstanding as well (15-6, 2.62). With Felix's ERA and QS's, he's already won 20 games with ANY team that has an offense. Are our bats going to to keep him from the award?

In Felix's 10 losses, Seattle has scored a COMBINED 10 runs. That is INSANE. His run-support is 2nd worst in the AL, behind Kevin Milwood.

Buccholz gives up 5 runs in 2 IP, his ERA bumping up to 2.53. Felix leads the AL now with his 2.30, going up tonight against the Angels. This article basically sums up my argument above, only well written. CC is the favorite because he's got the wins and he plays in New York -- essentially, best player on the best team, not the best overall pitcher -- but Felix deserves the nod.

Felix deserves the Cy Young.

Most recent start, he took a no-no into the 8th before finally giving up a hit/run.

I dont know. His season reminds me a lot of the one Clemens had a handful of years ago with the Astros. Didn't have more than 12 or 13 wins, but his ERA was around 2 (actually a little less, I believe).

Wins are so over-rated and I hate when people bring them up when trying to judge a pitcher. If someone leads the league in innings, ERA, etc, then they are the best pitcher. Hands down. No argument.

I'm hearing "CC, Felix, Price" as the probable 1-2-3 by the talking heads on Baseball Tonight and MLB Network, mostly. The frustrating part is that several members of the baseball media have flat out said that Felix is the best pitcher in baseball, but "you can't argue with 20 wins on the Yankees." WHAT! You can absolutely argue with 20 wins on the Yankees, that's not what the Cy Young is for.

Felix is so good. He deserves the Cy Young award but I don't think he has a chance in hell of winning it because his teammates couldn't hit in a softball league.

The dude just threw a two hit one run game the and M's lose once again. So baaaaad.

I guess Grenke (SP?) won last season with fewer wins than Felix but he was at least in the ball park compared to Felix.

Felix has his teammates to thanks for not winning it this season.

Well, having such great numbers in such a bad team should be something...
