Vargas (0-2, 5.53) vs Dice-K (2-2, 4.09)
Fister (1-3, 3.19) vs Lackey (2-2, 6.35)
Felix (3-2, 3.22) vs Buchholz (1-3, 5.33)
We have a real shot at winning this series. We have a legit chance in every game, as the Sox have no clear advantage on the mound, and we are easily sporting the better pitcher in the final two contest. Vargas sucks so we will see about Game 1.
Lets do this!

Tonight's game is going to take 5 hours to play. I hate Dice-K. Over/under on 53 seconds between pitches?

The sweep of the Tigers gives us fans a flicker-of-hope of making a run back to the .500 level. Is it possible to take 2 out of 3 from the Red Sox here?

That would get us to 13-16, back within earshot of .500 ball with a 6 game homestand approaching.
Come on M's. Throw us fans a bone.

Figs walks, Olivio hits a double off the Monster, Smoak delivers a 2-out, 2 RBI single. SMOAK!

2-1, bot 2
Our old friend Mike Cameron hits a pop fly to shallow left that goes about 305 feet, but since we're in Boston that's three feet farther than their 302 foot right field demands. Home run. I guess.

Down 4-3 to start the inning, but Olivo got a groundout RBI to score Ichiro, and two batters later Cust hit a shot off the monster to score Figgins.

Fister's in a hell of a jam in the first inning, but he's only one pitch away from getting out of it unscathed.
We can beat Lackey. Let's get this game and assure a series win...

Bradley with an RBI double. Bradley at 2B, Figgs at 3B, Olivo hits a grounder to 3B and CLEARLY beats the throw, but he's called out. Wedge comes out to argue, he leaves, Bradley starts barking and he gets tossed.
Really, really terrible call at 1B, though. Should be bases juiced, one out, with Smoak up.

Olivo beat a ball out to first by a good half step and the idiot umpire just completely blew the call and called him out. Then Bradley gets tossed for clearly saying "it wasn't **** close" in the umpire's general direction.
Which is fair...an umpire shouldn't have to hear it when he doesn't do his job right. He should be free to sit there, never being held accountable by anyone for his mistakes [although they are many], because that's simply the way baseball's always done it. Tradition!

I instantly found myself wondering if any other Mariner aside from Milton Bradely would have been thrown out in that same scenario.

And the make-up call on the DP! Ellsbury was clearly safe and 2nd.

Ichiro: Would've glared at the umpire
Chone: Would've smiled for no good reason
Smoak: Would've just hit a home run
Cust: Just happy someone made contact!
J. Wilson: See Cust
B. Ryan: See J. Wilson
A. Moore: Would blow his knee out walking towards the umpire

olivo's defense might be worth his contract alone. hell of a catch in foul territory.

Good Lord! If we can squeak-out this victory (6 outs away), we get to 13-15 with Felix taking the mound tomorrow, where I always like our chances.

What a win! Take it and love it, Red Sox Nation.

...and then we head back to Seattle where we have a 3 game series against Texas. As good as Texas is, we lead off the series with an improving Bedard, then Pineda.
Not only do we have a
chance to pull to .500 in the next few days, we actually have a chance to take over the division lead. Did I think I would type those words about two ago? Not a chance.

5-game winning streak? Hell yes!
I just hope Figgins can keep it up. He's been hitting extremely well lately, and that helps our offense so much. I was confident coming into the series and I'm so glad our boys have pulled through.
No let-down game tomorrow. I want a sweep.

hell yes, four multi-hit games in a row for Figgins.
that was a weird game. our 3/4/5 hitters went 1/13 and left 10 guys on base, fister had more walks (5) than k's (4), boston had a runner in scoring almost every inning (it seemed), but fister worked out of jam after jam and laffey/league were excellent once again. i was worried because wright was unavailable, but damn. our 'pen is quietly awesome.
