Seattle (16-19) @ Baltimore (14-19)
Michael Pineda (4-2, 2.58) vs. Jake Arrieta (4-1, 4.35)
Felix Hernandez (4-2, 3.02) vs. Chris Tillman (1-3, 7.16)
Jason Vargas (2-2, 4.68) vs. Zach Britton (5-2, 2.93)
We've got the Twins, Angels, and Yanks up on the horizon. Get to .500 now, ask questions later. Two favorable pitching matchups to start, and Vargas is entirely capable of 7 stellar innings. Yes, he's also quite capable of two soul-crushing innings, but his last couple starts have been nice. GET IT DONE.

2-0 Mariners, top 2.
Adam Kennedy goes yard, takes Olivo with him.

I believe I misspelled "Indians" here. Tribe looks legit, Minnesota seems to be really struggling.

Re: Seattle (16-19) @ Baltimore (14-19)
4-3 M's, bot 7
This is turning into a battle of who can score more 2-out runs. Pineda gets the first two quickly in the 6th, then four consecutive hits later we're down 3-2. First two Mariners go down in the 7th, then Saunders singles (finally breaks that 0/26 slump), Ichiro with a bunt single, Figgs doubles in Saunders, and Olivo gets an infield hit (no, really) to score Ichiro.
They intentionally walked Smoak (respect, son) to get to Cust, which was of course a great/easy decision. Cust flied out harmlessly to left.

Smoak takes one the other way to tie it up with two outs in the ninth! That's why you bat him third, dammit. With first base open I don't know why you don't put him on and take your chances with Olivo; yes, that puts the potential winning run on first but...

And Wilson with a strike to home plate to nail the potential game winning run! Bradley would've airmailed that thing into the second row.

Well...that was one of the most frustrating losses I have seen in a very long time. Jesus...

Sounds like I'm glad I didn't see this game.
I'm done with the League closing deal. Gimme Aardsma back, please.

Unless a trend develops I'm okay with League closing, he was 9/9 before tonight. DA scares the hell out of me with his habit of inducing deep, deep fly balls.
Shoulda been a storybook game. Smoak delivers in the 9th in his first game batting 3rd, and Wilson gets the go-ahead RBI in his first game with the club. Alas...

Same here. Plus, a lot of the hits against League tonight weren't that substantially hit. That dribbler up the middle that Wilson whiffed on was a huge play. The M's turn two there and the game's over. Instead, he whiffs on the grounder and the game went on. The ideal result of a League pitch in that situation is a ground ball hit towards a middle infielder, and that is just what he got.
Aardsma was diagnosed with a rather severe strain in his arm today; if we don't see him pitch for the M's again this season I won't be surprised.
Didn't help to see Saunders noodle-arm a throw from centerfield as the winning run slid in safely. Sad that a game that saw him get a couple bloop hits counts as one of his better performances on the season.

I didn't think the defense helped league at all in that final inning. I thought both Jack Wilson and Figgins didnt get to balls that they should have gotten to.

We seem to play really well for a week, then take the next 2.5 weeks off. So watch out, May 24-30. We'll be back. Wouldn't want to play us then.

0-0 in the bottom of the 8th. Our offense rocks.
Vargas is on today, at least.

Vargas throws 9 innings of shut out ball... yet we play on. To the 12th we go.
Wright's thrown 2 crisp innings of relief.
I believe Kennedy pinch ran for Smoak, so... neat.

1-0 M's, top 12
Olivo with an RBI single, Ichiro scores from 3rd!
M's luck out twice. Ichiro gets on, Figgins hits the ball right at the second baseman but he bobbles the ball and can't turn two. Next hitter, Kennedy, hits the ball right at SS and Ichiro takes off to 3B, and JJ Hardy has him dead to rights, but for whatever reason he throws the ball to first for the out. Olivo comes through the next AB.
I have no idea what Hardy was thinking. I'll take it, though.

I've seen this episode before. Stupid Mariners. What a horribly depressing series.

League blows another one, and Peguero's defense in the 9th inning made me wonder if we'd been better with Milton Bradley out there...on defense.
