Yuniesky Betancourt

What type of player is he? I thought he was an all glove/no hit defensive whiz shortstop, however the contract extension you recently gave him tell me otherwise.

(Okay I'll admit that this is mostly a fantasy baseball question, but not completely)

Great glove, has some speed will steal you about 12-20 bases, will score some runs has a little pop will hit around 10-20 homers and will hit 270+ i had him in a keeper league for a dollar and was very happy with him.

He hits, just not for a lot of power. He's a guy who can hit around .300 easily...just don't expect a lot of walks or power.

However Yuniesky did put on some muscle over the offseason and he already has a home run so maybe he'll hit a few more this year.

He should steal bases but he needs to work on how to do it. He was caught stealing far too often last year.

I absoultely love the extension we gave Betancourt. Sure, he hasn't put up superstar numbers, but this kid has .300/20/80 with 20 SBs potential. Not to mention he is really outstanding in the field.

I was suspect of him prior to last season, but his .288 BA that he put up really surprised me. He wont walk a lot, but he makes pretty consistent contact at the plate.

Betancourt is the typical Mariners youngster: rushed to the bigs without proper development. Not that I put much stock into defensive statistics but almost every one out there feels his production is nowhere near what the hype is (with the caveat that he is still really young and somewhat raw) but the worst part of his game is his bat. He could easily hit .300 but his OBP would still be well below league average. He has very little plate discipline and modest power that may or may not appear. (Guys with power potential but lack plate discipline tend to never realize that potential.) And, as good as his speed may be, he

No, it's a prediction that has been made by just about every professional scout who has seen him play. Was your reply a joke?

The worst thing anyone has said about Betancourt's glove is that he has made youthful mistakes at times. Some of the sabermetricians out there note that his zone rating has not been especially good. But there is no one, no one, who has regularly watched him play and doesn't think he has at least the potential. You may disagree, but to call it "a joke" just means you haven't paid attention.

If Betancourt goes his whole career without at least one Gold Glove, I'll be shocked.
