I'm glad Griffey's back. This has been a long time coming. He's the only player I truly miss seeing in an M's uniform.

This will be a fun game to see. I wonder if he'll smash a few out of the park for good ol time's sake.

Ha ha...fair enough. Of course I say that in the sense that I see Griffey playing in another uniform and I still think it just doesn't look right. I think he should still be playing for the M's.

I was able to cope with Randy Johnson leaving because I wasn't sure how many years he had left in him and because his last year was one filled with acrimony. Same with A-Rod as his giant contract was so ridiculous.

When Edgar left, it was clearly time for him to be done. Same with Buhner. I look back on their careers and am happy with what they did and felt proper closure. Griffey was a different story entirely.

But for what purpose? If he's in the AL, he needs to DH. If he's on the market right now because he's unhappy playing RF, I doubt he'd like being a fulltime DH. There's no way the M's could afford to supplant Ichiro's steller defense at CF with a player closer to 40 years old than 30 years old with a knack for hurting himself.

I don't think there is a player in the history of Seattle sports who had quite the impact that Griffey did. Griffey walked on water in Seattle. Kids idolized him.

I fully expect Griffey to get quite a reception when he returns tonight.

I agree, although I felt like we should've kept the Big Unit. That IMO is a mistake.

As mentioned, Griffey will get a hero's welcome back to Seattle.

And we should be able to EASILY take two of three; no f**king idea how an Arroyo/Batista pitching matchup will go. We could win that one by a score of 20-19.

Griffey makes me sad. Good to see him back though.

His speech is actually making me sad, too. I wonder if he regrets leaving...he has to...obviously his career didn't turn out quite like he envisioned it would in Cincy.

It's good to have him back. The reception seemed fairly warm, and he deserves that. There was some booing, but they were in the minority.

The booing is something I don't totally understand. A-Rod? Yeah, I understand that...he became the posterboy for greed, and he's turned into everything I hate in a major league athlete.

Griffey did his penance...he made what he thought was the right move at the time, and it backfired horribly, costing him the possibility of being considered the greatest baseball player of the last fifty years. And his leaving didn't kill the team...the team went on to make the playoffs and had one of the greatest seasons in the history of baseball. What killed the team was lackluster management later on...

I know Griffey didn't leave on the greatest of terms, but...gee, I've gotten over it.
