Tigers @ Mariners Game Thread

Post#1 » by Bay_Areas_Finest » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:50 am

I didn't get to watch most of the first game, but I slacked off at work (Emergency Room) and watched the 8th-9th innings in an empty patient room. :D

Was really great to see (or hear) about Beltre getting that big hit, and always awesome for Felix to string together impressive starts.

Oh, and JJ Putz is STILL God.

Did you see that hit Beltre got? Crazy play. In case you missed it...yeah, we got a free run out of it that we didn't deserve. And we won the game because of it. Oops.

You know, I wouldn't go so far as to say we didn't deserve that 3rd run, because, if you check the replay, Beltre CLEARLY touched the bag with his left hand. So essentially, the ump missed the call, and we deserved that run.

If anything, Carlos Guillen should take lessons on how to tag people. :D

Yeah, but Beltre was clearly tagged out. We shouldn't have scored there...

Yeah, but lets say the ump SAW Beltre tag the bag and still missed Guillen tagging him out. Then, Beltre would have been safe on the appeal.

We're running in circles here. :D

I'm going to check the news to see if anyone died after being neglected in an emergency room in Naples, Italy. (That's what they get for having their emergency when the M's game was on.)

How clearly? I just watched it about five times and can't say he was clearly tagged out. It was very close the first time Carlos Guillen reached at him, but Guillen certainly did not act like he had made the tag; he kept chasing and tried to reach again. The second time, he clearly missed Beltre, but that's when he showed his glove to the ump to appeal for the call. Of course, the smart play for Guillen would have been to throw to third base and get Beltre in a rundown, rather than repeatedly lunging and ultimately dropping the ball.

All I can say is this team keeps coming up with ways to win after all the ways we were finding to lose over the last few years. This is a welcome change and the way a championship team works! Keep it up I'm loving this!

That's where I thought he had it. I only saw it couple times but it looked like the tip of the glove stopped moving along with the rest of the glove hand.

Yeah, but where's the fun in that?

It's fairly common for people to make the argument that closers are the most overrated players in the game...but about about a closer who's also the right handed setup guy?

I don't think you can overestimate Putz's importance to this club. When he comes in, you knows the game's over. And his ability to come into the game early basically means he is the right-handed setup guy.

If there's one problem on this team I'd like to see management address at the deadline, it's probably RH setup. Reitsma lives by the seat of his pants, and Morrow's over his head. Brining in Putz so often might not be in the long term interests of this team.

Other then Rodgers being on my favorite fantasy team this series is just iceing on the cake. I knew we had a good team but who was to think we can take out the tigers like this. Look out LA LA Land your going down. They say the Apocolypse is upon us, but who cares The M's are back!

Even more impressive, he did it on an eight-pitch at-bat. This from a guy averaging 3.32 P/PA, dead last on a notoriously free-swinging team and ranked #172 out of 176 qualifying players in the majors. There's hope!

Lowe was going to be that guy before his injury, who knows what type of player he'll be now but, ideally, the job is his.

how much different would the game had been with ichiro in it?

the good thing is the mariners are keeping it close to the angels & indians/tigers.

I'll take a 4-game split against the best road team in baseball anytime of the season.
