Interesting....
As much as I hate Bonds, I love left handed power hitters....
I'm torn.

I agree 100% never have I watched a team so boring at bat then the last couple of years Seattle Mariners. They are so close too being a winner I think they are 1 left handed power hitting outfielder away from winning and winning big! Last I checked the last on the market is a guy named Barry Bonds.

well, everybody knows how much can a player like bonds give to a team, but i don't know how big will the risk be considering ALL the situations around him.

The M's need Bonds but won't sign him.
He is exactly what they need, a guy that can get on-base via a walk and is a left-handed power bat.
I would rather go after a guy like Nick Johnson( who I think is on the trading block) who would be great for our DH position. He is tough to K, great contact hitter and takes lots of BB's with high OBP.

We just need some kind of power, and one that gives you a decent average to go along with it. Bonds is that type of guy.
I'd take him, for sure. Just pencil the juiced-up freak in at DH and see what he can do.
Thing is, you know Bonds would ask for a lot of money, and nobody is willing to pay it.

I dunno. I think he'd get the hint that the season started and he's still without a team and is still damaged goods. I don't think it'd ask for anything outrageous, like you know, Richie Sexson money.

What about Frank Thomas. He doesn't have the distractions that Bonds comes with. Except the distraction of a falling out with a manager that nobody likes, John Gibbons.

^ Love the idea of Thomas, if only as a platoon guy.
Imagine a Bonds-Thomas, lefty-righty DH platoon. For a full season, that's worth 50 homers and 200 walks, easy. Never mind that it forces us to play Ibanez in the field full-time; it would be worth it. Designate Vidro for assignment and make it happen.

If Bavasi doesn't sign Frank Thomas within the hour, I will kick him in the teeth. Thomas, to me, is perfect for what we need in a DH.

Sounds good to me. I think Vidro's actually perfectly suited as a bench bat. And putting Thomas at DH means Vidro's option doesn't vest.

i like better the idea of thomas, it would mean much less distractions for the team.
