Beltre had five hits and became the fourth player in Mariners history to hit for the cycle -- single, double, triple and home run in the same game. His 24th home run of the season, and third in the past two games, gave Seattle an early lead, but it took a lot more offense than that to subdue the Rangers. Betancourt contributed two doubles and his fifth home run of the season, as every Mariners starter had at least one hit.

Interestingly, it happened on the same day when the M's were mathematically eliminated from the wild card race. (Boston won its 80th game.) Seattle is now the only team in the majors that is officially out of postseason contention; Pittsburgh is the only other team that is mathematically out of its divisional race.
