I don't expect this move to translate into much success for the M's given Griffey's age and injury history, and I'm far from thrilled after thoughts of Abreu danced about...but when I first see Griffey in his Mariner blues on Opening Day all rational thought will go out the window.

Clearly the M's feel this is going to put more @sses in the seats, which is why they do this deal. Like Sweezo said, this will do nothing to improve our record.

I had no idea getting Griffey was even back on the table...is this something he's also asked for?

I'm with you. LOL It's fitting that he retire in an M's uniform if possible. A nice sedge way from career's end to the HOF, and would kind of seal-the-deal of him going in as a Mariner.

Griffey is the mythic sports hero of Seattle, IMO. There's something about him here that transcends reality and rationality in a way I haven't encountered anywhere near the degree in another Seattle professional athlete.

If he homers in his first at bat, I think I'll weep. LOL

You know what? Screw him. He was only going to be marginally helpful to the team anyway, and potentially harmful if he took at-bats from Jeff Clement. I was 50-50 about wanting him back, but now that I see he's trying to leverage the sentimentality for the best deal possible? Forget it. Those extra fans who would buy tickets to see the sentimental favorite but wouldn't buy tickets to see a team that's serious about building for the future? Screw them too. Let Griffey sign with Atlanta or wherever.

No kidding. He bent this team over a barrel when he demanded a trade to the Reds, and now that his options are limited and he appears to be wanting to come back...now he's trying to leverage the M's for more money?

Sucks for Atlanta. I wanted to have some excitement with Jr around, but oh well, we have the media circus happening this year.

I hope Jr. stays healthy and performs at a high level to pad his career stats.

I'm happy that Griffey is back in Seattle. We were going to suck for a little while anyways, so might as well suck with the best player in franchise history. He's not the same guy, but I'll still be thrilled to see him in Mariners colors.

Plus, for around 2 mil? No harm in that. Plus, as a DH, I think his numbers could be solid.

The minute he starts taking PT away from anybody more than ten years his junior and I’m walking to Seattle and slapping everybody involved.

This is great news. I hope he has a decent season. What could be better for this franchise at this particular moment than to bring back the greatest professional athlete in Seattle sports history? No, this isn't going to single-handedly turn around the performance of this team. What it does, however, is create a buzz again in the malaise that is Marinerville, and do it at precisely the time when it's needed.

We're coming off one of the most depressing seasons that I can remember; yet promising new management is in place in the front office, a new manager in the dugout, some signs of life in our young talent throughout the organization, and several decent draft picks forthcoming at least give the impression that our recent dark years may soon be behind us.

Perhaps a shot of nostalgia is just what the doctor ordered to kick off this new era. I'm down with it. I heard today that there was a big jump in ticket sales when the news came out. What the hell. Why be cynical?

I'm loving Griffey's return to Seattle, I think it's good for Griff and the franchise. Hopefully he'll put up some decent numbers again.
