Seattle (39-36) @ New York (43-32)

Brandon Morrow (0-3, 5.64 ERA) @ Joba Chamberlain (4-2, 3.81 ERA)
Jarrod Washburn (4-5, 3.22 ERA) @ Andy Pettite (7-3, 4.38 ERA)
Jason Vargas (3-3, 3.79 ERA) @ CC Sabathia (7-4, 3.55 ERA)

Pitching worries me. Not quite sure what Morrow is going to bring to the table (hopefully a repeat of what he did in Yankee Stadium last year...) and Vargas has given up 5 ER or more in 2 of his last 3 starts.

Historically, we've done well against Pettite, but Sabathia has given us trouble (dating back to the '01 ALDS, right?). Joba has never started against us.

We played great down in LA, let's hope our mojo traveled cross-country with the team. First pitch is in under an hour.

I'm so excited for this series! The M's really suprised a lot of people against LA so i'm hoping we can do the same against the Yankees.

Per usual, we lose the first game of the series. Let's hope we can get a split out of the last 2 games with the Yanks. Still only 3 1/2 games back, and this brutal 9 game road trip passing the halfway mark with tomorrow's game.

Well we lose again, but the Rangers are beating the Angels 7-1 in the 6th inning. In other words, dropping two games to the Yankees so far, and, if the Rangers hold on, we still don't lose ground to the first place Angels, remaining 3 1/2 games back. Could be worse.

Lets hope we can take one off the Yanks - I don't want to be swept.

It's a shame I've had to work late-ish the last couple of nights. I had a chance to score free tickets from a colleague for the second game last night. Still haven't been to the new Yankee Stadium.

What NY teams have you adopted as your number 1's?

As in, what NY teams are my favorites in their sports? Well, I was going to adopt the Islanders when I heard they had a guy named Satan, but then I learned it was pronounced Sha-TAHN, so I bagged that one. And then Satan moved on to another team anyway.

I was just wondering. It took me awhile to fully embrace certain Seattle teams over my home town Chicago teams as my number ones. The Bulls remain my number one in basketball. The Cubs and the Bears can stubbornly cling to you like a barnacle. But I knew Seattle was going to be my home for a long, long time when I moved back here years ago.

You've got to be impressed with Gutierrez, and the move that brought him here. I'm starting to wonder if we scored on a bit of a late bloomer really coming into his own now? Probably not, but the thought crosses my mind.

By the way, M's up 6-2 in the bottom of the 4th. This would be a big win for the team, get them back to .500 on the road trip, 6 games down, and 3 to go.

PS> I should just shut up, as by the time I hit the "submit" button, Matsui hits a 2 run homer and it's 6-4.

I just remembered, the Islanders won 4 Stanley Cups in a row way, way back when, didn't they?

I just want to remind people (once again) that I picked Gutierrez as my Mariners breakout player of the year before the season started. Looking good thus far! :) What a great acquisition.

And that homer by Branyan, oh boy. I knew that with all the times he had been striking out, if he got a good fastball to hit first pitch, he was going to deposit it.

Mark Lowe = Beast.

I'll take 1/3 for sure.

Today's game is key for the M's. Felix takes the mound for us, and he's as hot as any pitcher in the league now. We get this win tonight, it takes the pressure off of us for the last two games of the series, a followup win either Saturday or Sunday being gravy.
