ever since beltre went down and hill was demoted, i always wondered if this would be a direction we would go.
The deal includes "cash considerations" with the Brewers expected to pick up most of the money remaining on the $6.8 million salary this season and $8 million for next season. Hall signed a four-year, $24 million contract prior to the 2007 season. The deal includes a club option for 2011.

So that's the second 3B we've traded for this season. It would seem that he's our 3B next year and Beltre is gone, doesn't it? Jack Z trying another reclamation project with a guy he's familiar with?

Is a platoon at 3B in the works?
Bill Hall career v. LHP: .275/.347/.484
Jack Hannahan career v. RHP: .222/.318/.356
Adrian Beltre career: .271/.325/.455
Hall's had his issues but he came over very cheaply and isn't horrible defensively. Is the team banking on Hannahan turning the corner against right-handers?

i doubt hannahan's really in our long term plans. and beltre probably would've been traded already had he not gotten injured all those times. and with hall's contract pretty much being paid for by the brewers, it's more than likely he's going to be our 3rd baseman next year.

Just so nobody expects him to revert to his 2006 form, this could be a useful addition. He can still hit lefties okay and he's a pretty good fielder at three positions. Since Milwaukee is picking up most of the tab for his services, this seems like a pretty good deal. The guy we gave up for him sounds like even less of a prospect than the guy we traded for Jack Hannahan last month.

I like the deal considering we didn't give up much and money-wise, Milwaukee is helping out quite a bit in regards to Hall's contract. Hall's not a great hitter, but he has some pop and can move around the infield to different positions.
I'd rather have him out there than Hannahan, I know that much.
