Seems like a mistake to me; He may not have been impressive in spring training, and as much as Sweeney's been getting base hits in spring training...he is still a known quantity. He's an aging line-drive hitter with back problems who can't play the field defensively but is well loved by his teammates in the clubhouse.

Garko was one of the few power threats on the roster; I am hoping he won't be missed, even though his role on the team was likely going to be quite small.

Well if this means Sweeney is getting a spot, then I like the move.

Besides, we didn't really have a need for Garko. Kotchman and Carp are for sure better at 1B, and he wasn't going to see much action at DH.
