It's the dead of a franchise.

The franchise isn’t dead. The Luka fans are gone now. Eventually there will be new owners and new GM and the team will eventually find another star. Rinse, wash, repeat.

The franchise didn’t die when they traded Mark Aguirre, or when they traded a 23 year old Jason Kidd, or when they let Steve Nash walk, or when they let Brunson walk. The franchise will be ok eventually.

The fanbase from 16 to 30yo were at 70-80% Luka fans, he was the face of the franchise, it's how NBA works in these days... We lost at least 1 generation of fans. It's a completely disaster.
All Dallas Mavericks forums are dead.
The AAC is full of casuals.
We are a joke, you can hear "Fire Nico" chants in every sport buildings.
Internet is full of memes about our franchise.

I know that fans like you and me (who are 40+ yo) will pass over that stupid trade soon or later but it's just a limited vision of the situation.
Watch over your nose sometimes.

And compare Luka Doncic to those (very good) players is simply bad and if you can't understand the difference (basket and extra basket ) it's a big problem. Ouch.
This trade will be remembered forever in sport history, it's like Babe Ruth.

We played the Finals 7 months ago, now we are 10th in the west with something like 4-20 stretch of games and a roster leaded by 2 old injury prone proven Robins and a bunch of good players.

This franchise is dead right now.

Probably only fire Harrison (who has not all the guilty obviously) can help to fix this rift between fans and ownership.

I’m not denying it was the worst trade in NBA history. Clearly it was. Did it set the franchise back maybe 10 years? Yup, the trade **** this franchise. Nico and Patrick Dumont **** this franchise.

My point is this too shall pass. I was as big a Mavs fan in ‘95 as I am right now. The Kidd trade destroyed me as a Mavs fan. Trading a generational talent before he hits his prime is unforgivable. Kidd was not the global star that Luka is but he was by far the best young PG in the game and clear cut HOF talent. He was also a bigger American star than Luka is. Th only difference was that there was no social media like there is now.

It may take a while but this franchise will recover eventually. They will eventually draft another player that will become a star and the fans will be back. There are too many people in Dallas that love basketball for the fans to stay gone forever.

Yes, we are on the same page and 10 years it's a reasonable amount of time for say a franchise is dead in my opinion.

The things can be even worse if those idiots will trade all our assets for KD next summer.

The social medias destroyed Harrison and Dumont career in NBA, probably they don't care too much because their business or paychek will be good anyway.

The problem is that we don't have draft picks this time around.
At least we had the draft to look forward to during the 90s after the Kidd trade.

Now I'm afraid we'll end up trying to piece this thing together every year with broken down washed up overpaid former stars giving up young players and draft picks in the process. Kinda like the Knicks after the Patrick Ewing era.

With Luka, we were almost guaranteed 50-win seasons every year no matter what supporting cast we put around him (similar to the Dirk era). Now we'll struggle to win 30 games every year with very little to look forward to.

Hate to admit it, but what we are currently experiencing will be the normal going forward if Nico continues to control this thing.

Yea pretty much everything you said is true. Nico won’t be here for much longer. I said this earlier too but I also believe the Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont will be gone soon too. Once the gambling vote fails and once the vote for the new arena fails they will be gone too. They want to build the new arena in Irving, TX and they are already protesting against it.

How long you willing to wait for that to happen again? Mavs are in a horrible draft pick situation. Also, how often does a stacked draft class come around like it was in 2018? Or how often is a "Star" player willing to sign with Mavs in FA?

Nico and Dumont completely lost perception of reality and just went all in for the next 2 years.

What they failed to see was, long term, there is no easy way out, there is no real plan or solution to this fiasco. Sure, you can win a ring this or next year.... Then what? Sit around and wait for another 10y or even 15y for draft stock to accumulate again? In recent memory Mavs drafted 3 great players but had a ton of misses. So even with having tons of picks, there is no guarantee you'll actually land a star.

The only reason why Mavs fans somehow survived those down years after 2011 was because Dirk was still around and was pushing on even though he could have retired much earlier. And even in 2018, Mavs literally lucked into Luka. It was other team's stupidity that allowed them to land him. They were targeting WCJr and Brunson that year.

Well after they traded Jason Kidd it took about 6 years for them to become relevant again.

I’m not denying anything you’re saying. Nico and Dumont have **** this team or the foreseeable future and they continue to gas light the fans. They will eventually all be gone (can’t be gone soon enough) though and I will still be a basketball fan living in Dallas. Dallas will also still have a team (the Mavs). So when all the front office losers are gone me and the little Mavs will still be here and I will still be pulling for them to win. That’s not for everyone and you and everyone else here is right for feeling the way you do. Most fans will likely leave within a year or two but a small few of us will still be here rooting for the little Mavs.

Next summer we will have all the answers.

-if all of you are right and Nico is a completely big ego idiot then he will trade Lively, PJ and a lot of picks for KD so the Mavs are a 30w team for next 5/6 years.

-if i am right and Nico is just a man who sold Luka Doncic for his own business then he will make a couple of good trades and Mavs will be a decent first round PO for next 5/6 years.

After those time (like Mr. B said about post Kidd trade) the Mavs can be relevant again.

I like your optimism and patience but like i said, how long will it last? :D Looking from a perspective where Mavs had insanely bright future ahead with really great core and then it was gone in a week....

People from all around are still talking about the trade, that's how bad it was lol. What happened and is happening, is something never seen before. So yeah, just hope now that people rejected casinos in your area that Adelsons won't change their mind and relocate Mavs from Dallas.

I still don’t see the NBA allowing the Adelson’s to move the team. There’s too much money to be lost that way. The NBA benefits much more by awarding an expansion franchise in Vegas. Worst case scenario though even if they did allow the Adelson’s to move the team Dallas would be 1st in line for an expansion team. The NBA is not going to allow a top 5 market to sit without a team.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
