From what I’ve been reading though Aguirre did not get along with the coach Dick Motta and also did not get along with Rolando Blackman. All of that was taking place between that ‘87-‘88 season and the ‘88-‘89 season. In ‘89 he was traded to Detroit. Detroit then won the title in ‘89.

John MacLeod. Not Motta. Motta left after 1986-87 season.

You are correct sir. It was John MacLeod not Dick Motta. Dick Motta did come back to coach but not until ‘94. My fandom started the year Quinn Buckner became the head coach. I believe that was also Jim Jackson’s rookie year.

You missed the 1989-1990 implosion of a great team.

89 - Drafted Randy White in the first round.
89 - Aguirre traded for Dantley. Dantley had no desire to play in Dallas.
89 - Start of Ron Tarpley's substance abuse problems that ruined a great player.
89 - Traded Schrempf to Indiana for Herb Williams.
90 - Acquired Fat Lever from Denver for two firsts. Fat Lever went from all-star in Denver to spare in Dallas overnight.
90 - Signed Alex English as a free agent. English went for a solid player in Denver to trash in Dallas overnight.
90 - Lost Perkins in free agency to the Laker.

This set up the pathetic 90's for the Mavericks franchise.
