Glad I missed this game. We must have looked like crap tonight.
Did we lose by being a lazy jump shooting team again???

For the most part, we tried to get to the rim, but we just really aren't all that good at it tonight.

On defense, we let them get to the hole too often.

All-Star break can't get here soon enough.

Oh wait we still have 2 games against the Blazers and Shaq's debut w/ the Suns.

But course "we like our team".

 Calm down big guy, I agree with you. Pavlovic, Pietrus, Barnes, Mo Peterson, and Posey were all on my list of people who we could get, but of that group, I doubt any of them would do any good tonight. Pietrus I think had the biggest upside at position and age. emil2k liked Blatche.

I just wish that Terry for Maggette trade went through.

Have you seen Blatche when he plays high minutes? He's like Josh Smith lite. I think emil2k was onto something. Of course, im sure the system helps but the guy is 7 ft, athletic and can play when given minutes. I was one ragging on emilfor his hard on about him, but man, it looks like he was right about Blatche. He's still young too. Barnes or Mo Pete would be useful right now.

I wish they'd just try and shop KVH and take on some salary if they have to and bring some fresh bodies who can play in here. Bucks, Pacers, Grizz, Clips, Sonics come to mind. Mobley and Tim **** Thomas for KVH? They only have 1 or 2 years left each and can provide more than Jones, Juwon, George, Ager can. They are good/ok offensively and cant be worse defensively than what we've already got. Wouldn't Sterling be ready to dump salary? Obviously Mike Miller would be ideal but i just don't see it happening.

In the first half, we actually looked ok. We attacked the rim a couple of times, so it was not a bad first half. But in the second half... At halftime our FG % was 53 % maybe, at the end of the game that number was 35,1 %. I'm not really good at math, but it was the worst offensive half we've played this season. Maybe it's better if nobody tells me our FG % in the second half. It's around 20 %, isn't it? We have to bounce back tomorrow, Portland is a very good team, and if we can win this game and play well, maybe we can pull out a surprise win on thursday, this team is much better than that, even without Devin. It's time to play better basketball.

I called that one wrong, oops...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Philly loss

Post#47 » by Deus » Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:29 pm

Its not panic time yet. Right now what I see is a team with a lot of injured players. Stack, Harris, and now Howard has gotten hurt. Mavs will be okay after they get back and are fully heathly.

Plus, Avery is testing out new strategies of play. Dirk can't always carry the load and shoot 25+ shots a game. Last night George took 12 shots, JJ took 11 shots, Bass took 8 shots, and Eddie Jones took 6 shots. That's what I call spreading shots around. Plus, Diop played 27 minutes and we see how he performed. Like sh-t. No points. That hurts.

If the Mavs are still playing like this and only have 38-42 wins at the end of March then I'll panic.

I just wonder if the larry bird theory of Coaches Effectiveness and losing players has set in for real. Every week I hear Avery say they want to get to the rim and play consistent defense. They are doing neither.

Also, teams don't win shooting 35% and scoring 23 in a half.

Things are just piling up now, and we are so accustomed to seeing great regular seasons. I hope cuban and donnie do not make a foolish trade to break this team out.

Avery's trying to turn his players into something they're not, which is a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately, he's right: we need more consistent defense and more attacking the basket. Even before Devin went down, we needed those things. We needed them in the playoffs the past two years as well.

Another area is running. Avery's said from the beginning of the season that he wanted to take advantage of fast break opportunities and run. We don't have the personnel to do that. We have TWO guys who can run the break at all (JET and Harris), yet nobody wants those two on the floor at the same time. So we're effectively left with one guy on the floor who can run a break, and JET's not very good at running the break, so there ya go.

Well I've slept on it and while I'm still disgusted with last night and the recent play I'm no longer in panic mode.

Is a trade needed? Yes I think so but the core shouldn't be blown up.

Despite our horrid play of late we are still in the top of the standings and doing all of this without DH, Damp, Stack, possibly J-Ho, and a weary Dirk.

I hate using injuries as an excuse but the truth is DH makes the offense move fluidly and without him playing, Terry is mediocre. Damp is a huge key for this team in rebounds, defense, and setting picks. Stack eases Terry's burden off the bench.

So many factors go into this recent slump. Hopefully it will end soon.

Of course talk to me after the next two games and I could have a completely different mindset.
