Wished we kept/keep Diop

For all his faults, he's a young, affordable, big body that gives us a competent back-up to Dampier in addition to pulling off poor man's Marcus Camby impressions (picking guards pockets on an iso) once in a while.

That was my hope that mavs could keep him for the Center strong teams in the playoffs. I guess Front Office and avery have low opinion of him.

Let's hope they have some kind of deal up their sleeves for a backup-center. Otherwise we'll get crushed in the playoffs by the other teams frontcourts :(

I was thinking the same thing, why WOULDN'T PJ Brown want to sign with us? He'd get plenty of playing time, he'd get a GREAT shot at winning, he still is valuable!

And even though we lost Diop, alright, but lets be real, he was good in the Playoffs yes, but we also have Fazekas, a young Center who can prove himself, who knows we haven't seen him, but he's done good in the D-League.

Duncan took Bass to school earlier this year so we are dead if that matchup ever happens again.

We are doomed if we don't pickup a TRUE defensive backup center. Last year I wouldn't have been as concerned but it is imperative that we have some reinforcement at the center position this season...at least defensively.

Wonder how much cash Diop would fetch in the off season. Perhaps Dallas signs him to the MLE once he's a FA? That would make next year very interesting.

Full MLE, book it. Hopefully he re-signs with us eventhough he's severely affected by the trade.

But if we use our MLE, we won't be able to add anything to our team in the offseason other than fossils since we gave (or will give) up two of our picks on this year's draft.

SaintofKillers has a point. All we have is the MLE because we are over the cap and the LLE was used on Jones. We screwed ourself with the draft on this lopsided Kidd deal.

I can only see us going after one position in the off-season.

This is why I wished Van Horn was signed for like $6,500,000 or something in that ballpark. Then we wouldn't have to include Diop in the trade, but I'm sure New Jersey specifically requested he remain in the deal. Otherwise it doesn't really make much sense to keep Diop in the deal on our end regardless of the luxury tax.
