Looking for some info as a Nets fan

Post#1 » by kidd0701 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 5:48 pm

Can someone give me a breakdown on the players we got. What they were good and bad at and what I can expect from them?

I will try to do the same for you guys if you have any question on the guys you are getting.

Thanks in advance.

DHarris - Not gonna be a superstar in the league, but he still has potential to improve quite a bit under a head coach that will allow him to play through his mistakes and learn from them on the court. His cap is as a perennial all star (2nd team, not fan voted in) IMO and a player who will be a solid part of a "big (insert number here)" when you guys identify the other parts.

The stats he currently averages will be the very least he will do for you in each category. He's also a great defender, and as they are now touting him, a one man fast break.

Diop - Heavily defensive and mobile C. If also given the ability to show what he can do, he will be impressive. He started at the beginning of the season and played good minutes. The result was a debate on who shoud start at C when Damp got back from his surgery recovery. He's a rebounder/shot blocker. He can get into foul trouble and will need to work on that.

If you keep him he will be an awesome backup C. One who will push your starting C to earn his minutes.

Hassell - Not sure you want him, but he's a good locker room guy and a decent player. His specialty is defense. He'll be expiring contract fodder for you in a year or so.

Ager - We're all glad to be rid of him, he chucks up shots as soon as he gets the ball and makes stupid (not rookie mistakes, stupid mistakes) mistakes right and left.

I am interested to know your thoughts on Wright. There are a good amount of Dallas fans who are glad to have him, I'm just not sure.

Antoine started the season showing that he could turn out to be a pretty good player. He opened the season great, and many jumped on the bandwagon. However, after that, it all went downhill. He came into the league known as a good consistent shooter with some athletic ability. He was probably the Nets best perimeter defender. However, his offense is pretty bad, and he did not develop into that shooter he was supposed to be. He misses way to many open shots. However, he is young and still developing and perhaps a new system and new location will allow Antoine to fulfill the promise he had when the Nets drafted him. From what I can tell, he is a little worse version of Hassel, but is cheaper, younger, and has more upside.

Antoine Wright Pros:

-Great Defender
-Can Hit The Occasional 3
-Won't Cause Any Problems, Locker room/Playing time wise..
-Solid Rebounder for his size/position

Cons:

-Too Unselfish to the point where it hurts the team..
-If he makes a mistake his confidence will take a hit and won't be the same player the rest of the game
-Streaky as hell...
-Limited potential...

Harris will be an all-star next year. He just needed 5 more MPG, get away from Avery and/or Terry and those two must be drinking buddies.

He has the potential to be Kevin Johnson-like, Already is Tony Parker if Parker knew what defense was. If the two had the same minutes, Harris > Parker right now!

People try to make him out like a turnover pronned player, but he had less TO's per min than Kidd or Nash and he more than makes of for that with his steals, knock aways and charges. He hardley ever gets burned as he always stays in front of his man. Many of the fast PGs in the west speed by Terry, Barea and our collection of SG's whereas harris makes them pass back out (or create a charge)because they can't get past him.

Diop will never amaze you offensively, but he has better rebounding and shot-blocking per minute than "defensive centers" like Wallace and Dampier. I hope you guys waive him so that we can re-sign him.

Forgot Ager:
Ager is a good person. Very good attitude, good Christian, but he needs concistant minutes to improved. It seems everytime he got on the floor, he was lobbying for more minutes by playing selfish ball. That would be okay, except for he had too many turnovers and bricks. He is very streaky, but he can score and play good defense when he is on. The problem was, he was only really "on" in games where he got good minutes like pre-season, d-league and summer league. I wouldn't expect to much, as I think he will be a career scrub.

KVH...you drafted him, so you should know what he can bring.

Dammit: forgot Hassell also.
IMO, if Hamilton is the best offensive SG without the ball, Trenton is the best defensive SG without the ball. His man hardley ever gets to touch the ball, but once they do, he just slightly above average defender (that's the diff btwn him and Bowen). His offensive game is rarley used, but he is effecient in his chances. Nice mid-range game. Flashes of post moves. No so much on 3's.

We aren't going to cut him, from what I heard Thorn demanded for him to be in the trade. Without him, it wouldn't of gotten done.

Diop is a great defensive big, but it would surprise me if NJ could convice him to stay this summer... Harris is amazing, Nets fans are going to love watching him in future years, as far as Ager and Hassell, theyre just bad, plain and simple.

I kinda figured that was because of his salary; it is already 65% paid by the Mavs and if he were to be taken out, KVH ould have to be signed to about 80% of Diop's salaray more. Meaning about 1 mil more.

I know it's a stretch, but I'm still hoping.
