Trade Deadline has passed

Now all we will see is contracts bought out and players waived. Thank goodness it's over.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Let's look at them all:

Phoenix/Miami trade (Shaq, Marion)

LA Fakers/Memphis trade (Gasol)

Dallas/NJ Nets trade (Kidd)

New Orl/Houston/Memphis trade (B. Wells, M. James, B. Jackson)

San Antone/Seattle trade (K. Thomas)

Houston/Minnesota trade (G. Green)

Cleveland/Chicago/Seattle trade (B. Wallace, Wally World, L. Hughes, D. Gooden)

Toronto/Detroit trade (Dixon, Brezec)

What do you think of each or some of them and how do you rate them on the short term and the long term...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

All of the sudden the Kidd deal isn't so appealing to me. Not because of the performance last night, but because I thought for sure that the Mavs had another deal lined up to get a decent backup center.

They must be damn certain that a good center is going to get cut but I don't know who that could be.

Any ideas???

I think Cleveland won the day.

My idea for a while has been Lorenzen wright. He will not excite anyone, but he could put in Diop minutes and be somewhat effective.

Cleveland has really turned things around. It's going to be interesting to see how the new faces work with the old faces. Lebron has to be happy after this move!

At this point LW would excite me. He is the type of player that we need right now.

Anybody who can block shots and at least hang with Duncan, Amare, Shaq, Gasol, Okur, Boozer, Yao, Chandler, etc... would be a plus.
Juwan and Allen are not going to cut it for us guarding those guys and Damp's injuries should be a deep concern to management.

I've been feeling it all week and it never came.

It bothers me that Diop was vastly undervalued by our FO. He may not have produced on the offensive end, but we will pay in the POs when we have to face the monster centers of the west.

On another note...did we bring Kidd in to watch Dirk and Terry in iso sets?
We looked like the Mavs of old in the latter part of the 2nd quarter and 2nd half...jump shots galore without any ball movement.

Totally agree with the 1st part.

The 2nd part is yet to come. The whole selling point of Kidd was to make this a better passing team. Switching schemes from a 2-3 offense (with the SG's getting as many assists as the PG) with Iso's to a 1-4 offense is not a walk in the park. Kidd will HAVE TO BE a player coach and spread his BB IQ with other players AND AVERY himself. That is not going to happen overnight. Kidd cannot adjust easily to Avery's system nor is that the reason why we brought him over here. He is going to have to teach Howard, Dampier and Dirk where he wants them. Where, and how much to cut (especially Howard to get away from the jumpshots). Which picks to set and whether it will be a roll or pop. Hopefully he will add more emotion and intensity on both ends of the court.

I just don't know if all that can happen in 29 games.

^^ I don't believe it can totally happen in 29 (now 28 ) games. We're talking about unlearning one way of doing things and learning a new way of doing things. That takes a lot of effort. How much practice time is there, really? I hope enough...

So are we going into the playoffs with the combo of Dirk, Damp, and Bass to defend Duncan, Shaq/Amare, Odom/Bynum/Gasol etc.....we need to make another move before the playoffs.

I am so glad the deadline is over. Ugh it was frustrating (even though I think the Mavs improved). I would like to see the Mavs sign Justin Williams now, cause we only have 10 days to get our playoff roster together.

That's not true. We can sign anyone who is waived prior to March 1st and still be on the playoff roster as long as we sign them by the final day of the season.
