Coach Avery Johnson said the aftermath of the Mavericks' 104-93 loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday was a restless, work-filled night.
"It's one of those nights when you don't sleep at all," Johnson said. "You work around the clock. I was working with my coaches late. You've got a lot of stuff to do."
Johnson said the process of integrating Jason Kidd into the Mavericks' lineup while in a competitive Western Conference playoff race is challenging.
"Some of the stuff we're just going to have to do on the fly," Johnson admitted. "We've got to get a better feel for each other.
"We had 15 different issues to solve [against New Orleans]. We can't solve them all at one time. So you pick the most important, and, hopefully, you can solve some of them."
After a mid-afternoon practice, the Mavericks left for Memphis, where they play the Grizzlies tonight.
Before departing, Johnson compared the process the team is in to one of the delicacies of his native New Orleans.
"We want the gumbo to be ready sooner, and we don't have time to simmer," he said. "We don't have a year or two years or five years to simmer. We have days.
"So we're just trying to get it to taste better sooner."
