Magloire has not cleared waivers as of yet, and if that is their primary target they will not use any money until he is signed OR signs elsewhere. The Mavs have the whole MLE, but how much of that will it take to get Magloire (or whoever the primary target is)?

Until that answer is defined they will not use any of the MLE.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

Magloire should be happy to get the MLE right now.

His stock is extremely low.

It doesn't matter, the Hornets would keep him just to prevent a division/conference rival from getting him. I bet B. Scott keeps him buried deep on his bench a la JR Smith and Brandon Bass...

Uhm, he wasn't that great when he was playing, what makes you think the Hornets are so intent on keeping him from going to another team? They'd have to sign him back for the same contract with which he left the league with (3 mil a year). Can't really see the Hornets tying themselves down with a 3 million "dead weight" contract to keep him away from other teams.

Everyone seems to love this big JWill. Only darren seems to have seen him all the way across the planet. Mavs need a big tough defender, and those guys are just not waiting out there to be picked up after the deadline. I would bet that a guy like williams will just make avery so mad that he will not play. I see not reason, however, to not go out and get him.

It looks like Boston and Utah are our only competition for Magloire. Detroit signed Dale Davis, Toronto and Orlando aren't interested, he wouldn't fit in Golden State, and New Orleans will probably just sign birdman.

All this talk about Justin Williams out of all people has gotten me lost, So is this guy going to be another "hidden gem", similar to Brandon Bass's story?

Justin Williams would just be 6 fouls this year. IMO, in his best year he will be as good as Blatche is this year. Still, Williams > Nothing.

He's also good for some blocks and dunks. Kinda like Diop though he is skinnier than Diop.

I say sign him if we can. There aren't a lot of options right now, and we really need the insurance at center. He's a veteran who's had some pretty good years, he's still young enough to have some good years ahead, and he might come here motivated to play well. It couldn't hurt. Won't cost much to audition him.

Quote from Kidd in a Mark Stein article:

"I've never seen a guy work so hard when he isn't playing," Kidd said Monday night in Dallas of Magloire, who was Kidd's teammate with the Nets as recently as a week ago.
"If that were to happen [Dallas signing Magloire], I still think he has something left in the tank."

Quote from Allen:

"(Magliore) still has what it takes,'' Allen said. "He hasn't lost a thing. He fell out of favor in New Jersey, mostly because they like to have a high-post (big man) while Jamaal is a low-post offensive guy. But even when he quit getting minutes, he was still the hardest working guy on the team.''

Ya, I think we can do something with him. Damp with 32 mpg, Maggs with 16 mpg makes us a big team and makes smallball a thing of the past.
