We Are Set, How Do We Look?

Post#1 » by jtg41 » Wed Mar 5, 2008 3:55 pm

PG: Jason Kidd/Tyronn Lue
SG: Jason Terry/ Jerry Stackhouse/Eddie Jones
SF: Josh Howard/ Devean George
PF: Dirk Nowitzki/Brandon Bass/Malik Allen
C: Erick Dampier/Jamaal Magloire

I predict this as our playoff roster going in, with Jones and Allen beating out Wright, Barea, and Howard (Juwan might make it in you never know). How do we look going into the playoffs and now that we have roughly a month and a half to gel, will we be a contender come mid April. Most likely we will enter this thing at the underdog position, and still everybody is going to be doubting us due to the past two playoff runs. If we get solid production from Mags, plus JET and Josh Howard to come out of the slumps, I think we are dangerous. What do you all think about this year's run with our current lineup?

I think we are old.

Im pretty sure Wright, Barea, and Howard wont make the roster.

The Mavs need to get it together or we wont even be in the playoffs though.

This IS a very old team. Makes me sad for the future, as we dont have any draft picks either. Mavs had better win it in next two years, or it could be the 90's all over again

Barea is not needed because Terry could play emergency PG.

Wright won't be used because Avery is an idiot and thinks he's Ager for some reason...

Juwan will be on the bench talking to the players and he will help the team the most that way...

The only surprise would come if Eddie Jones was hurt going into the playoffs and one would have to wonder if Avery would put Wright onto the playoff roster? Hmmm, logic would have it that way. What do you bet Avery and logic go different directions on this issue
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Are you asking what our chances are in the playoffs? Just be glad if they make it. Don't expect any sort of extended playoff run.

This team defintaly looks old, but well balanced. I really wish Avery would play Wright more, he's a valuable player.

If Avery does not play Wright and he goes elsewhere like Fazekas what in hades name is Cuban doing allowing that BS to happen. I understand you want to hide what you have for later but we stole Bass and others will gamble if they think he has any value and steal him from us. The guy is not a raw rookie and has shown he can guard the leagues star 2 guards better than anyone on our team other than Howard and Kidd so what drug is Avery smoking to not let this kid play? Avery is not interested in letting any of our young players get any chance to develop. looks that way to me and a lot of posters here.

^^ Yeah, he's not interested in letting our young players get any chance to develop but the exception to the rule is Bass.

22 year old Bass cast off by mercurial Byron Scott where the Mavs signed him because of his Summer League and Pre-Season play. That is where Bass was able to wrap himself around Avery's finger so to speak...

Wright doesn't have that advantage but he could next year. Most players won't play in Summer league, they think it's beneath them. Look at Bass. Though he played alongside Diop in the Summer League, Bass' play earned him not only a spot on the team, but within the rotation. The wall can be circumvented. There just is a process...

Bass was in the right place at the right time. The Mavs lacked inside scoring that Bass could provide. The time was also right because Avery finally came to his senses and realized that the KVH/Cro/LaFrentz type players were not the best backups for Dirk.

Bass has made the most out of his opportunities and imo, should be a starter moving Howard to SG and Terry to the bench.

Speaking in terms of this season, no we are no where close to old. Kidd can still play and benefit in a positive way, he's still playing at all star level. In terms of our future, the main guy is Bass. Dirk is 29 going on 30, J-Ho is what, 27? Jet still has years left. Our core guys besides Kidd and maybe even Stack our not as bad age-wise as some are making it seem. Like I said before Bass is our key prospect, everyone else got their first round rookie last summer, we got Bass. And now we have Wright.
We have so many players over seas with rights to, Reyshawn Terry who I personally haven't seen play much but it seems like he can have some upside just by what I have read about him. Maybe we can even give Pops another try this summer and see how that goes, he could also turn into a solid back up. We are very restricted financially but if we make the right moves we can still be a contender.
I'm going to call that Kidd plays at the level he's at right now for.....1 more season? Dirk and Josh are not hitting the decline anytime soon. Same with Jet he will give us 3+ solid years at the level he's at. We are in good shape in my opinion. If we play are cards right and keep Bass & Wright, along with developing Barea, and giving Pops + Reyshawn looks in the off season...we have all the talent right in front of us, don't we? What do you all think and correct me if I'm wrong in the areas I've talked about.

The mavs are the 4th oldest team, in terms of average age, in the NBA this season. That was before they got Kidd too.

BY TEAM AGE
1. San Antonio 30.64
2. Phoenix 29.04
3. L.A. Clippers 28.86
4. Dallas 28.28

This doesn't mean much right now though.
