O/T: Mike Harris (Rocket)

Post#1 » by SaintofKillers » Sat Mar 15, 2008 2:59 am

This is the guy Houston waived Gerald Green for -- undrafted, undersized, unathletic, mediocre perimeter game... but has solid skills around the post, works hard, and knows how to play.

Amazing how the argument seems to be lack of playing time when this guy was the 1st/2nd player off the bench even though he was a fresh signing and Houston had no initiative to play him. I wonder why? :tooth

Mike Harris is playing right now because Landry is hurt.
He really impressed the coaches in the preseason and training camp and we waived him then only because we had too many bodies.
We needed someone who is familiar with the system and that can play the 4 while Landry is out.
Landry is expected back soon and then Harris won't see much floor time if at all.
EDIT:BTE Harris is very strong and athletic , can finish around the basket and has a pretty good mid raange jumper.
You can't play in the NBA without any skills.

Basically Harris played even more better than Landry on preseason. We Rockets fans are very high on him. However, Compare Harris's contract to Brooks or Landry and Harris's playing time issue, it's inevitable to cut Harris. Now, Yao got hurt and Landry's injury and it's time to bring him back for quality minutes. GG definitely has potential but he does not play with heart. He need coaches like Jerry Sloan or Jeff Van Gundy who teaches him discipline before he is ready to contribute. I think maybe it is the reason our GM waive GG. The 2nd round pick is simply give away and you know les is cheap - just want to get under the salary cap.

That's exactly my point. Green's an athletic scrub, while Harris has always been a less gifted BUT skilled player, and that's what matters. I liked him when he played for our Summer League team three years ago and I thought if he added a jump shot (much like Q) he'd have a spot in the league.

This was basically a thread to show our guys here who are infatuated with Green, Pietrus, and god knows what p.o.s. "athlete" they have planned, that skills >>>> athleticism.

No, but he's not a "skilled" player.
