Finally Damp plays against Warriors

It only took Avery one embarassing upset in the playoffs and 3 more games (against Warriors) to realize that we don't adjust to an inferior team. They adjust to us.

So Avery, the sky did not fall with Dampier out on the floor against the mighty Warriors. In fact the team played quite well with Damp out there.

Let's hope this is wake up call to Avery that we should not change was we do best because the other team does something unusual.

Can anyone imagine the Spurs taking Duncan out because he is not very quick guarding someone out on the perimeter? Not a chance. If a team put 3 guards and 2 forwards out there against the Spurs then Popovich would think we are going to kill them inside. And yes I know Damp is not Duncan but we are suppose to be the better team and we should find a way to make them pay for trying that tiny lineup against us.

Thank God Avery finally decided to keep Damp on the floor.

Your analogy is flawed. Instead of comparing Duncan to Dampier, you should compare him to Dirk. Dampier's equivalent would be Elson or Oberto. And I could definitely see Popovich playing Robert horry over those two against GS.

As I stated in my post Dampier is not Duncan. And show me one game where Popovich changes his normal rotation because some weaker team puts in a small lineup. The point of my post was that Avery should not adjust our lineup because of what an inferior team does. We were the 67 win team and we were adjusting to them? Are you kidding me? It was poor coaching and it continued into this season with Dampier playing limited minutes against the Warriors until last night. Finally Avery just plays our game and forgets about what the Warriors are doing.

In all fairness, Damp did have a hurt shoulder last year and then Avery started playing Diop more (which we were successful with Diop on the floor).

He was still hurt during the 1st game this year, but Avery played Damp 27 min in the 2nd game. Damp went for 13 pts (5/5 shooting; 3/4 FTs), 7 boards and 3 blocks.

It was the 3rd game this year were Avery decided not to play him. Of course, Damp, in the regular season last year was held back.

If you look at games when the Warriors lose compared to when they win you'll notice a trend. They get ourebounded by double digits. Last night they got outrebounded by 18 and Tuesday they got outrebounded by 17.

Avery refusing to play Dampier last year was pivotal. He screwed up and he knows it. That's why he gave him 27 minutes last night.

Avery was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was an idiot by not playing Dampier before. He has redeemed himself slightly by playing him last night. What I would like is some accountability from Avery, I would also like to weigh 140 lbs again like I did in High School but neither are going to happen! :rofl:

Even if Avery had played Damp against Golden State in the playoffs, it wouldnt have made much difference. Our biggest problem was stopping the guards and perimeter defense, something Dampier cant really help us much in either.

one thing he could have done is clogged the lane making it harder for them to drive to the basket almost uncontested...

The pros outweigh the cons. Keep damp in versus GSW and every other team. Make them play your game, not vice versa

I'm actually not sure what SA's normal lineup was earlier this season but Popovich did start Horry against GS then went back to Oberto the next game. I'm not sure if that was due to ineffectiveness or injury though.
