Dallas - Clippers - Toronto Trade MODIFIED

Post#1 » by thebossman » Mon May 5, 2008 5:50 pm

Hey Mavs fans, I posted this trade on the trade board but I wanted to get a feel of what the mavs fans think.

Does this trade seem fair to all parties involved?

Toronto Trades:

TJ FORD ($8 million) to LA CLIPPERS
they get a much needed point guard

TORONTO Trades:
1st round PICK to DALLAS
JASON KAPONO to DALLS

LA Clippers Trades:

Corey Maggette ($7 million player option, maybe sign and trades for 9mill/yr) to DALLAS

Dallas gets a more inside threat and some much needed grit

Dallas Trades:

Josh Howard ($10.455 Million) to Toronto
(Howard not traded within the WEST)
Toronto gets a much needed second scorer to fit along side bosh

SO DALLAS GETS

Maggette, Kapono and 1st ROUND Pick

You are kidding right? I think you have Corey Maggette and Josh Howard confused in your mind.

You are not getting Howard out of here with Maggette and Toronto's pick.

We would start talking at Howard + Terry for Maggette + Mobley + #6 pick.

So the Mavs get:
TORONTO 1st round PICK
Corey Maggette
Carlos Delfino

LA CLIPPERS get:
TJ FORD

TORONTO Gets:
Josh Howard

This sounds good for the Mavs but if I am the Clippers I want Howard over the always injured (but good) TJ Ford or I want more. TJ Ford isnt enough for Maggette. It might go down like this:

So the Mavs get:
Corey Maggette
Carlos Delfino

LA CLIPPERS get:
TJ FORD
TORONTO 1st round PICK

TORONTO Gets:
Josh Howard

Nah, I see Howard in a Maverick uniform if that is the the initial offer on the phone. Dallas would have to have some sort of incentive to trade Howard to start negotiations and nothing there is incentive enough.

Thanks for the input guys;

all in all do you think this trade seems FAIR for all parties involved?

maybe shuffle the first rounder around .. or keep the 1st going to dallas and 2nd rounder going to clips.

fair for all involved?

I think we can do A LOT better than that for Howard. I think Howard could be packaged for a big time player. The weed smoking isn't that big of a deal (Sheed, Damon Stoudamire, etc.) and he's still a really solid player.

I still think Miami would bite on Howard and Stack. There are also several other good players out there better than Maggette we might be able to get with Howard.

I w ould do it.

If I could draft a guy like Douglas-Roberts or Brandon Rush with the draft pick and get Magette who is a better scorer than Howard along with one of the best shooters in the league for any one player besides Dirk and Damp, I definitely do it.

Please note Jason Terry is actually JOSH HOWARD. Their salaries will be within one million after the draft, I believe, when Josh comes off of the BYC status.

Dallas gives up the best player in JOHO but gains depth to fill out the roster with some solid guys. The Denver part is if they want to shed K-Mart's salary as Rasho is expiring and Stack is a $2mil player option for 2009.

If that doesn't work for some people, it could be a JOHO for Parker, Kapono and Graham. Toronto still has Rasho's expiring, the MLE, the #17 pick and a tradeable PG as assets.

For Dallas (I am a Mav's fan), they get a starting SG (a bit underrated), a great outside shooter (a real need) and a good defender who is still fairly young.

All teams involved still have holes after this deal, but all still have useable assets for other moves. Not perfect, but I don't think too bad.

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Dallas, Denver, and Toronto being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Dallas, Denver, and Toronto had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

is it no because you have no interest in trading JOHO or is it because the trade is unreasonable?

Dallas roster:
C - *Desagana Diop - Radoslav Nesterovic / JaVale McGee
PF - Dirk Nowitzki - Brandon Bass / Andrea Bargnani
SF - Jason Kapono - Devean George / Rayshawn Terry
SG - Jason Terry - *Bonzi Wells / *Antoine Wright
PG - Jason Kidd - T. J. Ford / *Darrell Armstrong

Split the MLE with Gana and Wells. Sign AW and DA to vet min.

Dallas gets capable scoring to compliment Kiddirk. They gets Barg and TJ as a potential successor when both Dirk and Kidd are too old to compete. Without Damp, we can give Gana the starting spot. We can welcome his back with open arms.

Toronto roster:
C - Erick Dampier - *DJ M'Benga / *Primoz Brezec
PF - Chris Bosh - Jorge Garbajosa / *Jamario Moon
SF - Josh Howard - Jerry Stackhouse / Joey Graham
SG - Antony Parker - Carlos Delfino / JR Giddens
PG - Jose Manuel Calderon - *Jose Juan Barea / *Renaldo Seibutis

Split the MLE with DJ M'Benga and Primoz Brezec.
Sign Jamario Moon and Jose Juan Barea at vet min.

Toronto gets instant help to Bosh. They get a tough rebounder in Damp. Versatile all-star in Josh Howard. Playoff-tested veteran in Jerry Stackhouse. They keep nearly the rest of their free agent including Calderon who openly looking for starting role.
