One of the main positions the Mavericks need to adress this offseason
is the point guard position. Unfortunately, there really isn't any free
agent point guards on the market that could serve as a valuable back up
to Jason Kidd. We really need to take care of this situation due to the
fact that Kidd sits out a large part of the game and JJ Barrea doesn't seem
ready just yet. I think i have the perfect solution to this problem!!! I haven't
looked at the salary situation for this player and unfortunately he seems to be
looking for at least a 3 year deal. That being said the answer is:
Jannero Pargo
I beleive we all saw how good of a back up Point this guy was as he brought an
Unbeleivable spark to the Hornets during the series against the Mavs.
He is a point guard who seems to not understand the concept of defeat, isn't
scared to take the ball to the hoop and is not that bad of a shooter. Must i
remind everybody about game 3 of the playoffs (even though we won) Pargo put up
30 against us making the game much closer than it should have been. He reminds me of a
Point who once played with our Mavs: Devin Harris.
Call me whatever you want say this is a dumb move but with the Hornets looking at Posey
over Pargo I think we should do whatever we can to pick him up. If only we could offer him
a long deal we could afford this would be perfect.

Re: Back Up PG's Wanted
Idk maybe a sign and trade of some sort.
Anyways,
I think we all know that we need a true point guard to back Kidd up.
Who is available the mavericks could possibly sign. Does anyone know
what the Mavs have been doing so far to adress the emptiness behind Kidd.
Any rumors...Anything. Barrea just won't cut it.

Whoever it is won't be playing more than 12 minutes a game, so it really doesn't matter. You could easily spend time with Terry at the point, Kidd on the bench, Howard at the 2, and Bass at the 3.
PG: Kidd (36min)/Terry (7 min)/Barea (5 min)
SG: Terry (25min)/Howard (10 min)/Wright (13min)
SF: Howard (25 min)/Bass (8 min)/Stackhouse (15 min)
PF: Dirk (36 min)/Bass (12 min)
C: Dampier (26 min)/Diop (22 min)
Dirk: 36 min
Kidd: 36 min
Howard: 35 min
Terry: 32 min
Dampier: 26 min
Diop: 22 min
Bass: 20 min
Stackhouse: 15 min
Wright: 13 min
Barea: 5 min
Total: 240 min (divided by 5 = 48min)
PG: Kidd (36min)/Terry (7 min)/Barea (5 min)
SG: Terry (25min)/Howard (10 min)/Wright (13min)
SF: Howard (25 min)/Bass (8 min)/Stackhouse (15 min)
PF: Dirk (36 min)/Bass (12 min)
C: Dampier (26 min)/Diop (22 min)
Dirk: 36 min
Kidd: 36 min
Howard: 35 min
Terry: 32 min
Dampier: 26 min
Diop: 22 min
Bass: 20 min
Stackhouse: 15 min
Wright: 13 min
Barea: 5 min

Re: Back Up PG's Wanted
I think thats the least of all problems. going into the offseason we had two glaring holes: SG and interior offense. so far we adressed none of them. diop is a nice addition regarding the interior defense but the price we paid still shocks me.
the two main problems still remain. I wont find any peace as long as we dont get a good SG

Re: Back Up PG's Wanted
I feel our interior offense is the biggest problem. Unless Josh and Dirk start attacking the basket a lot more, I don't see us improving. Although, what I can see also happening is Kidd and Dampier working well together. We have a new coach, and hopefully a new mindset. I think if we can find a SG who would be our sixth man, than we will be safe. In recent Mavericks history, you can say it was NVE or Jerry Stackhouse, but Stackhouse can't be relied on anymore IMO. He's one of the problems on this team, a fairly big contract that doesn't provide enough for us to keep him at that price. His playoffs numbers have really been ugly, so I'm more worried about him than others. EJ+George I can live with because they make efforts on defense, and they don't chuck as much as Stack does, nor do they take up a lot of minutes, but Stack does all of that. What I REALLY want to see is for us to bring in Reyshawn, bring in Shan, have Renaldas Seibutis as well maybe.
Ideally, with what we'd have, I'd like this to be our active roster..
PG- Kidd, JJB (looks like we have no choice there)
SG- JET, Shan, Renaldas Seibutis or EJ
SF- Josh, Reyshawn,
PF- Dirk/Bass/George
C- Damp/Diop
Then having either EJ or Renaldas, Stackhouse, and Pops filling out our roster. It's very unlikely not to have Stack in our active roster though..
As a side note, I really wish we would have went after Rudy Fernandez last year...

Yeah, I did, and I'm the one that posted the story!
I really want Shan AND Reyshawn on our roster, but as long as at least one of them gets some legitimate PT this year, I'll be satisfied. I really think both have a lot to offer, and Shan seems really willing to put in the work.

Re: Back Up PG's Wanted
yeah shan could be a nice rotation player one day, but I doubt he will be ready this year. 4 years of college should help though. we still need a good reliable SG

Re: Back Up PG's Wanted
What we all are forgetting is though this FA class is heavy with 2s and 3s, is the fact that many PGs that will be FAs have yet to be cut or bought out and made to be FAs.
Lowry
Tinsley
Ridnour
These are three of the most prevalent ones I can think of.
There are teams that drafted PGs or made trades and have too many now.
There are also teams who are lacking PGs worse than we are, such as Miami.
In the race for PGs, it's all about timing. Some players will go early but not be as good. They might be overpaid too. On the other hand by waiting we might get a Lowry or a Carlisle friendly Tinsley on the cheap and have a much better production at the PG position. So, don't worry right now. PGs are coming in like waves...
On another note, I suggested that Green take the number 25 because 5 and 15 weren't available. I must have been wearing my idiot hat when I posted that. Let's make it 35, I think no one has that number...

If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Re: Back Up PG's Wanted
I don't think Ridnour will be bought out or cut, because Watson just broke his hand (or thumb, something), so he'll probably get a lot of PT. Lowry and Tinsley however, are interesting to look into. Tinsley would probably ask for too much than we can offer.

Kidd
Terry
Barea
PG is not a need. Barea with mentor Kidd for one more year is a great thing, IMO. Especially since his deal is believed to be 3 yrs less than $5 mil. Durning our championship run, Terry was our PG. Last year, at many times, our team looked better with Terry running the point than Kidd, so for the 18 minutes Kidd will be on the bench, Terry would do fine. And if he is struggling for any reason, Barea will do fine.
I don't think Dallas should worry about PG unless we trade Terry or Kidd.

The Mavericks will re-sign guard J.J. Barea to a three year contract once the moratorium on trades and signings is lifted, the Dallas Morning News is reporting.
While the deal has not yet been finalized, it is believed to be close and will be less than $5 million.
