James Singleton to sign with Mavs.

Post#1 » by jtg41 » Fri Jul 4, 2008 3:04 pm

http://newstec.sportec.es/noticias.asp?deporte=baloncesto&fichero=2008/07/20080704_2&p=1&t=1

It's in spanish, but basically states:

James Singleton has opted out of his contract with Tau Ceramica and will probably sign with the Dallas Mavericks

according to hoopshype.com

Thoughts? What did he do when he was with the Clippers? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he started for them at one time, if that means anything.

Edit: After looking at some reports and watching a few vids, he's another young guy (26) that can provide us with some much needed athleticism on the floor. Hope to see him on the breaks with Kidd and can't wait to see what he can do in the SL. Even though they're not big names, Diop, Green, and now Singleton. We're taking steps in the right direction.

Just because he signs doens't guarantee a roster spot. We knew he was going to play for our summer league team so there ya go.

If he gets a roster spot over Wright or R.Terry I'll be bummed and ticked at the FO.

yah, but if he actually WINS the job over Wright or Terry, isnt that better? I want the guy who outplays the other guys.

I remember I wanted Hensen to win the job over Romo. I'm glad i was just a little wrong there.

I agree with your logic and see what you mean but I feel a bit more personally invested in the other two than James Singelton. I'd just rather stay in house.

Singleton would be a good 3rd string SF/PF. For the minimum, he's fine. I dont understand the love affair with Rayshawn Terry or Antoine Wright. What have they done that proves they are going to ever be even backups in this league? And at the end of the day, they arent getting playing time next year. Terry/Stack/Howard/G.Green/Geroge will all be ahead of them. They are gonna sit at the end of the bench.

Did not get drafted by an NBA franchise, Singleton started his professional career in Italy playing with the Sicc Cucine Jesi (Lega2) during the 2003-2004 season, averaging 20.8 points and 12 rebounds per game. He received Eurobasket All-Italian Lega2 Player of the Year award. He later signed with the Olimpia Milano (Serie A) team. He averaged 11.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and two steals in 46 games during the 2004-2005 season, helping his team reach the Italian SerieA League Finals. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2005 Italian League All-Star Game. He was signed on August 30, 2005 by the Los Angeles Clippers to a two-year contract.

You do realize that sitting the end of a bench will be a considerable step up for Gerald Green from last year... I'm not sure about counting on Green to progress more than that this year, especially if we find a way to add a legit SG this summer.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

first of all, I am Italian. I know the lega 2 and can tell you that the lega 2 is something like the developmental league of the dl of the nbdl. only to give you an idea. so avereging 20 points there means not too much. in the serie A his average dropped to 11 points (and that was in 2004). he then signed with the clipps where he averaged 2,6 points and 2,7 rebounds, playing a 112 games for them. he then went to spain to the club of tau ceramica and played in the euroleague (which is something different than seria A by the way). euroleague is the closest to the NBA we have in europe but still the competition level is lower. there he averaged 3 points.
so I dont care if he held his own in the italian league or not.
by the way I can name you other 20 players who held their own in the italian league but none of them I would want to see on the mavs.
