Well, his number won't be '5' (Josh Howard has it) and it won't be '15' (Retired to the raters Brad Davis) so it might be 25 or something like that...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Re: Mavericks sign Gerald Green to one year deal;
Haha thanks Kandi....I don't know what the deal is, but this is my 4th forum in just over a year
.
The Celtics will always be "my team" though, but at the same time Gerald will always be my favorite player, so I'm going to root for whatever team he's on. Though his time in Minnesota was less than stellar, I'll always have some sort of attachment with the Wolves (perhaps its because I'm a Big Al fan as well), and I'll still be rooting for them. I'd hope that Wolves fans are still rooting for Gerald...though I know that doesn't seem to be the popular sentiment amongst you guys.
If 25 is open Gerald will definitely take it. 25 is his favorite number.....he took 5 in Boston because 25 is retired, and 15 in Minnesota because Jefferson had 25, and then took 25 in Houston.

GG is not a guy who values defense. He doesn't take pride in that end of the court. If that philosophy doesn't change Carlisle won't play him much at all. He doesn't have the offensive abilities to overcome that weakness in an area Carlisle covets.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

I hardly think Green is going to make an iota of a difference. Especially considering this team is in WIN NOW mode.
Either way, this is a great experience for him to develop b/c of his athleticism and talent. So hopefully it pans out for him.

Re: Mavericks sign Gerald Green to one year deal;
I wouldn't say Gerald doesn't take pride in his defense...though it certainly depends on how you perceive pride. I've seen Gerald matched up against guys like Kobe and play defense with all his heart....but on other nights you're right, he seems completely disinterested in that side of the game. I can always remember him getting up for big moments and really trying to lock down, but at this point he certainly would be classified as one of those "I play defense when I want to" type players. The problem to me is that the way he plays defense is directly correlated with the way he's playing on offense. If he's scoring the ball, he's got a bit of bounce in his step and he seems to be giving good effort on the defensive end, but if he's missing shot after shot, he gets down on himself, and seemingly the thought of playing defense never even enters his head.

What a worthless signing. He's not going to get any sort of regular play time and is going to get cut again. Book it.

Heard the same thing about Diop when we signed him. He was a total bust coming straight out of highschool and the Cavs fans called him the worst player in the NBA. Now he is getting multiple offers at the MLE. So obviously people in the league feel differently about Diop.
Green has actually been much better than Diop was in his 1st 3 years. I think you may end up eating those words.
This is hardly a worthless signing. We spent the league minimum on a a young guy with all the athletic ability in the world and something to prove. I can't think of a better way to use one of our many roster slots than on a guy with this type of upside for that type of money.
Did you want them to sign another 34 year old backup?

I was thinking along the same lines. To me, this is similar to the Diop signing (1rst time around) and the Bass signing. Guys that need a 2nd chance, even though you could call this Green's 4th chance, but its all the same.
Oh Yeah

Re: Mavericks sign Gerald Green to one year deal;
Honestly, this is our chance at ever being a contender. I don't trust our Dallas mgmt to make the right trade or make the right signing that makes us better. We are being super conservative. We desperately need Green to have a breakout year and really establish himself as a decent wing for us. Otherwise, we are looking at making another 1st round exit. Dirk, Howard and Kidd aren't getting traded, & Terry and Dampier wont bring in upgrades. Bass/Stack package is the only chance we get something at SG, but I wouldnt be surprised if we dont pul the trigger on that.
Basically if we want any chance this season to do anything, we are gonna need Green to step up.

I don't think he needs to step up, we didn't need or expect Diop or Bass to step up. He just needs to be solid, it's not like the difference between the lottery and playoffs rides on his shoulders. His job is to establish himself, not necessarily step up, become a role player. Guys that will need to step it up are the usuals(Kidd, Damp, Jho, Terry, and now Diop).
Oh Yeah

good luck with gerald. he has a ridiculous amount of talent and no idea how to use it. but he seems like a genuinely good kid and is still young enough to learn the game.

Since there is a big article on ESPN.com about how Green has signed with the Mavs, I would not worry too much about the typo on NBA.com.

Assuming there is not another trade, then yes we do need Green to step up. Your right we might not have counted on either Bass or DIop to produce the way they did, but can you imagine how much worse things might have been without them in those years. If we can bring in a legit, 30-MPG SG then we wont count on Green nearly as much, but if all we have at SG is Terry and Stack then I will HOPE that Green is ready to play minutes because those arent the only players I wont handing the 2-guard position.

I would absolutely love to eat my words on this matter, sadly I think that there's a very minuscule chance that I'll have to.
