Mavs vs. Warriors -- Game 2 Las Vegas Summer Leage Action

Post#1 » by from_ro_to_dirk » Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:57 am

Ok, i guess until mavsfoty is in regular season form, here is another gamethread. Excuse the crappyness, just threw it together now.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors
Las Vegas Summer League action

apparently the game has already been played but i'm going to watch it now on NBATV.

Hopefully the Mavs show a little more this time around. If McLeod sucks again in a summer league game then I'd hope the Mavs look really hard into trying to acquire someone a little better.

It was not a good game, nobody impressed me except Singleton and Rhodes of course, Singleton will be on the roster, no doubt, he is a great rebounder, and can shoot the three and the mid-range J occasionally, would be a good backup for J-Ho, maybe better than George, well on offense at least. Don't know much about his defense, he was active tough. Green was solid, his FG % still not good, but his 3FG% is great, .429.

Sow will be perfect for 3rd string center. I would be excited about Charles Rhodes, if he wouldn't be - basically - a Bass clone. At 6'8, an undersized power forward, who can bang and rebound. Rhodes i believe a little faster, not so bulked up as Brandon (Rhodes heavier, how???? He is skinny, and Brandon is so buff, i don't get it. :)), and the biggest difference that Bass is a much better jumpshooter. Singleton will make the team, no doubt, as for the others, i don't know. Green has signed already, and we're thin at SG, so he will get some PT. Sow has a chance for the 3rd string center spot, and i think that's it.

Wow, am I disappointed in what I have seen so far. As Zoli said only Singleton looked like a player that I would make the team. I think Bass is miles ahead of Rhodes but Rhodes did look OK.

Green looked like he did in the 1st game. He has no basketball I.Q. at all. He is indecisive and does not know what to do once he attempts to make a move. He does not play defense with the intensity required to be a decent defender. He does not crash the boards at all. He is lightning quick for a 6'8" guy. He has great athletic ability however I don't believe he has a 48" verticle. I think that is a huge exaggeration. He does have a nice stroke. He does look like he can shoot from 3-pt range with ease. Also this summer league team lacks a PG. Green kept coming off screens moving toward the hoop and was open again and again and nobody would pass him the ball. The only time they give it to him off the screen is when he pops out and gets it beyond the 3-pt line. I really wanted to see how he would finish a play if he received the pass moving to the hoop. Overall I am disappointed with what I have seen so far.

Foster played scared like he was trying not to do anything wrong as opposed to someone trying to make things happen. He was reluctant to shoot and always seems to prefer to pass. Not exactly what you want in a supposed sharp-shooter.

So far these guys are a huge disappointment.

It's true that he is not getting much time and he does not look very good in the time that he is getting. I can't tell you how disappointing this Summer League team is. Terry somehow looks slower than he did last year. Maybe that has to do with the fact that he put on about 20 lbs of muscle but that muscle does not seem to have helped him any. After looking at this summer league team I think that we are in desperate need of a trade to get a SG. I really thought that Gerald Green or Shan Foster could fill in but now I am not so sure. And I thought that Reyshawn would make this team and back up Howard. He looks worse than last year. Maybe things will change but this team looks like it has very few NBA players.
