Darius Miles works out for the Mavericks

Post#1 » by Basketballmania » Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:18 am

Per Wiretap:

Wiretap wrote:Former Blazers forward Darius Miles completed the latest audition in his attempt to get back into the NBA, this time with the Dallas Mavericks, Ian Thomsen from Sports Illustrated is reporting.

"He was much better than I thought he would be,'' a member of the Mavericks' camp said. "On a scale of 1 to 10, I was expecting him to be 6. But he was a good, solid 8.''

While exhausted, Thomsen reports that at the end Miles jumped flat-footed and touched the top of the backboard square, showing he still has some explosion his leap.

"I'm physically 100 percent,'' Miles said in his first interview since attempting a comeback unprecedented in this salary-cap era. "I'm not in [basketball] shape, but healthwise and bodywise I'm 100 percent. I've got the explosion, I can move.''

Miles is trying to become the first player to come back after the NBA ruled that his injury was "career ending".

If he were to sign a new contract and play in 10 or more games this season, his $9 million salary would go back on Portland's books.

Please define what is "locker room cancer". I don't believe people intend to bench a talented player with no reasons. He can't coexist with LBJ. He can't get minutes for Portland. That's a huge footnote to locker room cancer issue.

Well, I don't mind give him chance to show up in summer league. Unless he dominates there, I won't want him on the Mavs bench. I think Charles Rhodes and Shane Foster deserves a spot. I would cut McLeod for them.

If nothing materialized, I would like to see EJ retires as the defensive coach to the team. We underrate him a lot. With EJ, the Mavs get better performance last year.

C - Diop / Damp / Rhodes
PF - Dirk / Bass / Singleton
SF - JoHo / DG / Green
SG - AW / Stack / Foster
PG - Kidd / JET / J.J.Barea

We could move Stack, DG, Bass for something in the middle of the season. Unless Lakers trade Odom for Matrix, I don't see the Kings settle for Stack and Bass. We can surely beat Wally for Artest and KT, tho. Since Miami and Lakers are reluctant to take on KT's contract, we've some chances.

Nah, we don't want any of Darius. He's a knucklehead. We need players here who can help us get over the hump. He is of no use to us.

I didn't like Darius Miles even when he was healthy. I sure don't want him now. It's not just because he is a knucklehead. I don't even like his game.

Im suprised they are giving him the opportunity to work out for us. If he can come off the bench and stay healthy, I would say hes worth the vet minimum

A solid 8? So, that means that nearly the entire league is better!

I'm not a fan of Darius Miles and Gerald Green should be able to bring what Darius can.

Rather have him over Gerald Green???? Are you out of your mind? Gerald Green is a 22 yr old with unbelievable athleticism. Miles is a knucklehead who had an injury that most thought was career ending. If we are going to take a flyer, Green is by far the better chance to take.

Did Livingston ever sign with anyone? Is he close to being able to practice?

The fact that they are working out Miles makes me think that George is gone (which i figured) and that maybe they are expecting a trade with the Stack and EJ types. They could have these smaller back up plans that are on hold until the Artest situation is resolved either through trade or withdrawing the offer for good.

gerald green is a bum, he has a terrible attitude and he jacks up a shot everytime he touches the ball, theres a reason he has played for 4 teams in 12 miles, atleast if miles is cleared medically he could help this team, green should never get off the bench

We are not really interested in him. We were just testing our players to see if they can get along with a Ron Artest - like player.

Miles may have worded out with us, but will not work out for us!

This is so sad. We're now reduced to discussing whether guys like Gerald Green and Darius Miles can help us win games. I think I'd rather watch the Rangers (gasp!).

well they are playing a bunch of young guys and reclamation projects and look how those guys are doing. never know who things could turn out. look at Diop, he was considered a useleass flop while in Cleveland. Maybe Green turns it on here and even Miles, if they actually were to sign him.

You know what's funny? Is these same people that are ragging on Miles and Gerald Green, saying we are relying on guys like this, were saying the same exact thing with Bass. Every team gives guys chances in hopes they produce, so what makes us more special than anyone else? Why rag on these guys when you should rag on Cuban for giving Dampier 60 million over 6 years. Has he even come close to that value? No. It's deals like that that we have to grab guys like Bass and Green

Mavs Unlikely To Add Darius Miles

The Mavericks held a private workout earlier in the week for six-year veteran Darius Miles, who had microfracture surgery on his right knee in 2006 and has not played since.

"He was pretty good," Nelson said. "His conditioning and basketball timing isn’t quite there. But he worked out pretty well, and we’re just doing our due diligence. He’s a guy you have to do your homework on."

Despite the workout, however, it’s unlikely the Mavericks will sign Miles, who still is due $18 million on a contract he signed with the Blazers.
