It depends on what you get him for. If we can bring him in without giving up Howard, I think we would improve dramatically. It's not like the Mavs play defense for 48 minutes and every other team in the league plays on the offensive end. They have to guard us too. A Kidd/Carter/Howard/Dirk/Damp lineup would be very tough to stop.

Defensively we wouldn't be elite, but Carter is a big upgrade from what we have at the 2 now. He's no stopper, but I don't think he's the huge liability you're making him out to be where Howard and Kidd have to "pick up the slack" for him.

Defensively limited? Yes. Still scary? Absolutely! It isn't like Kidd needs to shoot. The other 3 guys can still get a fair amount of shots up.

The Mavs have no shot at Carter . The Nets are a very young team outside of Carter and the newly aquired FA's . We want our young guys to play on a competetive team to get the young guys gain some experience. ( Yes i'd be rather be a 8th with our current roster with 2010 in mind then a lottery team )

Once some of the younger players get more experienced yeah there's a pretty good chance we trade Carter because he would have no place anymore but thats not the case right now.

Old teams that have ended their run need to rebuild and thats exactly what we did . Other then Carter , Sean Williams and Josh Boone there's nobody on the current Nets roster from training camp last year and right now and most of our players don't have alot of experience. So we sorounded them with some quality character veterans .

Once your young players get some experience, Carter's value would be a function of how short his contract is because he would be an extremely overpaid jumpshooter way past his prime if he is even able to play.

well I wouldnt mind stealing him for only expirings. but no way would I give quality players (howard, even if he seems to get dumber every day and is trying to lower his value big time).

IMO, the Mavs should trade Kidd to the Cavs, and with some of the assets Kidd brings back use it to acquire Carter. Kidd would be a better fit in Cleveland than on the Mavs and Carter would be a better fit on the Mavs than Kidd is.

Terry/Delonte West?
Carter/Stackhouse
Howard/George
Nowitzki/Bass
Dampier/Diop

Maybe but what teams offer right now is not any better then just keeping Carter because the Capspace is not all that important . We would want at least a what we got for Kidd , RJ a Devin Harris , Yi type of player. Former High Draftpick or very promising looking player to make us part with Carter at the moment.

We have enough Draft Picks so getting more doesn't really matter.

Promising Young Player of a position of need + filler and thats most likely not offered . And since keeping Carter does no harm to us we just hold on to him.

I don't think you guys should put in another scoring player in your team.

I think J-Kidd, Dirk, Josh are enough.

Think about getting some depth.....and good coaching. Not blindly adding scoring.

^ A few things....

(1) Kidd's not a scorer. He's supposed to be the guy on our team who makes the scorers more efficient. If the scorers don't do their jobs, we can't ask Kidd to score more....that's not his game.

(2) So, being that (1) is a fact, improving our scoring is, IMO, a priority. We simply don't have the consistent scorers necessary to take advantage of what Kidd does offensively, nor we do have players consistent enough to lessen our reliance on Dirk. I was wrong in thinking that Josh Howard was such a player; he's not. The FO miscalculated that as well, yet they continue to stick to that belief.

I'm beginning to think we should consider trading Howard for VC.

At this point I would feel more comfortable with VC/George as our starting 2/3 than Stack/Howard which is probably what it will be if we don't make any other moves. George is a better defender than Howard and Stack and VC is a better scorer than Howard and Stack.

Either way we still stink.

I've about had it with Howard.

I'm still trying to find out why Carter's name keeps coming up on this board knowing that Kidd and Carter don't play well with each other and don't particularly care for each other. If we aquire Carter, Kidd is 100% gone this off-season.
