Lets say we blow it up, are we ever going to be better than Portland? Hell no! We have to keep fighting for this ring each and every year. Our team does not suck. With Kidd running the show, a great X's and O's coach, and Dirk we will be one of the most fundamentally sound basketball teams in the league. That will give us a shot night in and night out.
Yeah I remember the 90s. Im not discrediting what the Mavs have done, but I'm also not the only fan here who thinks this team is not going anywhere, no where close to being "one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the league" and might as well get some value for Dirk before it's too late. I'm also not crossing my fingers for the Mavs being able to attract some big name in 2010. No we would not be better than Portland, but who's to say Portland is not better than us RIGHT NOW? We don't know, I hope I'm wrong but the last two playoffs are pretty telling.
You have no loyalty appearently. Im all for thinking team first, but your ready to trade away probably the best player to ever wear a Mavs jersey in his prime so we can be lottery bound and take a gamble and pray whoever we draft will turn into the next huge star. We have some money falling off the cap next year do we not ?
What team trades away their star player in their prime ? thats a million times worse than the Devin Harris trade. We are going to be lottery bound eventually, there is no way around it....and that will be when Dirk leaves this team. If we are trying to get a good pick and clear some cap space its pointless, when this big free agency pot of gold hits in 2010 no big star is going to want to sign with a Dirk'less Dallas, or with whatever mediocre player we would get in return for Dirk thru a trade.
And I dont know who f*cked this team more, Avery or Donnie....
Avery with his intent on have "veteran" presence in players like Stack, Juwann...that guy with the short velicoraptor type arms, what was his name ?? It almost makes sense that Avery would be the kinda coach who'd want Kidd..although nobody wants to lay claim to that.
Or is the blame on Donnie for even pulling the trigger on such a trade, when we could be another one of those teams led by a good young point guard (Utah, New Orleans, Spurs..etc) Instead we traded away youth for another "veteran presence" because the coach didnt like a young inexperienced Devin Harris who he couldnt connect with, big suprise your coach couldnt connect with a seasoned point guard either. hmm Donnie, good job picking up on that trend.
I think we have no choice but to sit on this team we have for this year at least, if we really start talking Dirk trade right now it'll be over
