Are we ever going to make a move?

Post#1 » by jlp0807 » Sat Sep 6, 2008 3:48 pm

Okay. I'm getting about sick of this crap. We have a decent roster, but if Nelson or Cubes thinks we can compete with the Lakers, Rockets, Hornets and Celtics of the NBA they are smoking with Dorrell Arthur.

We still need a back up PG. Please dont tell me JJ Barea is the answer. Kidd is 60 yrs old and cannot shoulder the load the hole game. JET looks to be our starting SG and should get the minutes there. Who is going to back up Kidd?

We still need a back up SF. All these young guys are okay as third options. Eddie Jones and Jerry Stackhouse should just be trade bait. Who is going to back up Josh? George isnt that bad, but c'mon.

We still need a third Center. Diop should be the starter. I would love to trade Dampier and his bloated contract. This team has used three centers over the past several years. Who is the third Center right now? In a smaller line up, Dirk could play the 5, but I dont think that is the answer during the playoffs.

Is there any way to get a sign and trade deal for Ben Gordan? Send Stack and Damp to Chicago for Gordan and Nocioni? Then send Eddie Jones to OKC for Petro to back up Diop?

What do you think?

Just trade for Vince Carter?

Trade ID #4765847

Check it out. It may be leaning in favor of the Mavs but has benefits to Golden State and Indiana also.

Basically, its:

Dallas sends Dampier to Indiana
Dallas sends Singleton to Golden State

Indiana sends Jeff Foster to Dallas
Indiana sends Marquis Daniels to Golden State
Indiana sends Jamaal Tinsley to Golden State

Golden State sends Al Harrington to Indiana
Golden State sends Kelenna Azubuike to Dallas

Dallas gets the same production from Foster at less than half of the money and a decent swingman to back up Josh.

Indiana gets to dump two troublemakers that do not fit their system.

Golden State has several PFs thus dump Harrington. They get a PG in Tinsley since all of theirs get injured. Plus Nellie gets Marquis back. Remember, Don Nelson liked Daniels and Daniels played well under Nelson (until Avery took over).

Again, leans in our favor, but could still happen. Although the rumor is GS/IN trade without Dallas' involvement...

Also, Azubuike would have to give the trade his blessing since he was just resigned (LAC had him signed to an offer sheet) by Golden State. But why wouldn't he?

I don't see us doing much, if anything right now. Our high salary players don't provide us with much leverage to improve, so will probably need to wait until they only have a year left to move them, or for when they become free agents. Face the facts that this team is probably what's going to be during the start of the season. I like our chances of staying healthy compared to a team like Houston. Talent on teams doesn't necessary mean everything, but having good chemistry could mean a title, and it's time for all of our players to come together on and off the court. (example: Josh Howard and Jason Kidd)

I think you guys should be interested in Garcia. If the wiretaps/SacBee are true, it is likely that we will NOT extend Garcia and he will be a RFA next summer (Then again, there is a chance we will sign him as well). But yeah, that can be a potentially good signing for you guys IMO.

-JET is our back-up point guard, so we don't have to worry there
-Dirk is fine as our 3rd center. if we got a 3rd center, he wouldn't be playing in the playoffs anyway
-George will be fine as josh's back-up as long as he can stay healthy

i'm pretty sure this team is staying pat even though i wish we could pull a move to add another consistant scorer. it wouldn't surprise me if we were active at the trade deadline though...

No good trading peices combined with an owner who thinks our team is still elite in the western conference... Dont expect a move any time soon

How do you know? IMO this team knows they need a steal at this point, fair trades wont cut it any longer. Sac tried to rip us off with an Artest-Josh swap, so we wait till the next opportunity which will be at last at the TDL.

someone will be desperate to make a trade at TDL.
because they want in on 2009 or 2010 offseason and want some youth to add to potential FAs

Carlisle and Diop were the moves.

They should improve the team from the pitiful post-Kidd performance.

And remember...don't make a trade just to shake things up and downgrade in the process.

It is obvious that Cubes does not want to trade a shorter contracts like Stack & Jones for one that goes past 2010 (like Carter or Crawford). Eventually you guys will realize that too. It was apparent to me when the JJB, Wright and George signings were al signing that can be terminated in 2010 and Green, Singleton & co we all given 1 year contracts.

That is their plan. That is their move. If you did not see that a long time ago, sorry...open your eyes.

There is only one of 2 types of moves that will happen
1) Signing / Trading for someone who expires by 2010
2) Signing / Trading for somone who's pay is still decent past 2010 (like Diop...maybe Bass at the MLE amount)

Carter, Crawford and a bunch of the other names floated around will just kill us summer 2010 and all the negativity now will be multiplied by 20! You know...should not have done this....should not have done that.

I agree with you on all fronts JES, however do you see any potential for a blockbuster-type deal wherein another team has a superstar and wants to get themselves ready for FA in 2010?

In such a scenario (which are probably few and far between) DAL would be foregoing some portion of competing for FAs in 2010 but might be able to gain a valuable piece to put beside Dirk.

I don't know; maybe so. Honestly, with Dirk's ETO and Howard TO, 2011 could be a good target for us (still waiving Damp's final year due to Diop and possibly Bass). The problem with that is our PG is a 35 yo Kidd, not a 25yo Harris. We really should compete this year. Transition 2009-2010 (unless they extend Kidd just one year) and rebuild summer 2010. If we had not done that trade, I would be more open to the whole 2011 thing. As is, I hope not.
