JJB is the AnSwEr!!!

Post#1 » by mrtcsm » Sat Sep 6, 2008 6:17 pm

Come on guys... Stop fooling yourselves with J Kidd. He definitely is on his way out and he has to pass on the baton to JJB. I have watched this kid game since he was 12 yrs old and I am confident he is now ready to take significant minutes as the backup PG of an NBA team. If you guys cannot see this or are not willing to give him the opportunity please set him free. I know a few teams that are more than willing to hand JJ the basketball and let him create plays for them (just ask D'antoni, Don Nelson, and/or Terry Porter).

When Jose Juan Barea has consistent playing time he plays really well as he feels more confident in the court. In his last international basketball outing (CentroBasket '08) JJB burned all of his opponents and finished as the tourney MVP. Even though the competition was not the best there were a few NBA and ex-NBA players representing their countries in this tournament (Al Horford, Francisco Garcia, Carlos Arroyo and JJ Barea) and out of them all, Barea was clearly the most efficient on the court. He finished the tournament with averages of 22.2 ppg, 6.4 apg, 2.4 rpg, and 1.6 spg in just 27 minutes/game. He also shot for an outstanding 47.8% from 3pt range and a decent 83.9% FT. He had two 30+ games and a game where he dished 15 assists. I am hoping numbers prove my point but I know you guys will still be hesitant to hand him some extra minutes in the rotation. I am sure Rick Carlisle watched the tournament and will make him prove himself in training camp hopefully giving the guy a chance to contribute this season.

I he can just be an adequate backup, he is a huge homerun for the Mavs.

I only see him being a solid backup for us. I don't like his size, but love his speed, so I hope he continues to prove he has what it takes to play for us. If Jason Kidd was 40 right now, he would still mean more to this team, and give us a better chance at the title.

Barea is extremely talented, no question about that, i even think he is more talented then some starter PG in the NBA. The problem is, talent is not everything. He could be a star in Europe, but in the NBA... He should be more confident on the court, and more importantly he should be much more consistent. With that said, i love his game a lot, and i hope Carlisle will play him 15-18 MPG, that should be enough for him to prove he can play efficient ball, which i believe ha can.

If there is ever a question that JJB is the answer to this team is in a whole lot more trouble than what we all thought. Come on everybody ! Sure it's fun to watch a little midget guy run around the court and i'll give you that he is fast, but seriously the guy is a horrible defender. The only way you can have a pg like that on defense is a someone like a Nash that despite is defensive liabilities he can distribute the ball so well that it makes to offense and his offense game nearly impossible to stop like the Suns the past few years. But even with that said defense wins championship's and JJB is not a good defender. Keep him as a 3rd stringer if you want or a fill in here and there throughout the year but if Barea is a starter in this league something has gone horribly wrong or your the Clippers either way your screwed !

wait a minute, the OP is right.
JJB IS the answer...
...to the question: who is the mavs third-string pointguard after kidd and terry.

but I like JJB a lot. sure do I hope that he gets some minutes, but like some others said, his defense is a huge liability.

If JJ gets heavy minutes at PG, that means either Kidd is hurt or the Mavs FO has done nothing to address the primary SG issue which means Terry will be forced to fill that role once again.

Either way, we would be finished.

Terry and JJB on the floor at the same time...yikes, I don't think so.

Sorry to interrupt, do you mean JJ is anywhere closed to AI's level?
JJB is nowhere closed to be the 'Answer' of the D-town.

Kidd has one more year. I can at least guarantee you. He's on the decline, though.
We should play him 40 minutes per game to keep him in shape.
You can expect him to be a huge scorer nor shooter. But greatness won't lie. You'd hear it soon.

im going to agree, JJB & Terry shouldnt be on the court together...ever. First of all JJB should be the distributor a passing PG, having him with Terry is pointless since Terry is merely a jump shooter who will move around screens and picks to find his own shot. JJB would be better suited with players who will make moves to recieve passes heading to the basket, players like Wright or Green ..Bass who can also make up for whoever blow pasts JJ. This all though rests on the shoulders of the Coach ans those specific players not to settle for jump shots, we have seen a tendency to make moves to the cup in Wright, a little unsure about Green I only saw jump shots from him in the Summer League, and lots of jump shots from Bass when we last saw him, but we know he can produce in the paint, he just needs to finish.

How is JJB the answer if Kidd is not the question?

Stackhouse------?
Jones--------------?
Wright-------------?
George------------?
Terry at SG------?
Green-------------??
R. Terry----------??
Foster------------??

Those are the question marks at the 2 position. Not a single one of them is adequate as a starter. The only thing good about all of them is that none of them have a contract summer 2010.

Edited...meant Terry at SG, not PG. Terry at PG is fine.

Kidd is the question. At least one of them.

I believe that Kidd will have a great season under Carlisle. However, the dude is 35 or whatever. He cannot shoulder the load for even close the the entire game. JJB will have to have significant minutes at PG. That is a huge problem for the Mavs.

I think Terry could be the starting SG. He was definitely the second best player during the playoffs last season. He can shoot well from everywhere and actually drove to the basket quite a bit. Although Im not thrilled with Stack and Green, they could back him up. Would I rather have an All Star at SG? Of course. But I'm pretty high on Terry after the NOH series.

If we could make a small move to bolster our backup PG and SF positions, I believe we could be much better off. Hopefully that could include Dampier. (Although we would need a backup center in return)

Why are we not looking at Livingston to back up Kidd? If he is healthy, he would be a great addition.

I like JJ Barea, and totally agree with you. I think he'll get A LOT more minutes under Carlisle. Avery had a death grip on JJB and wouldn't free him to do what he wanted. If you watched him play in the "B" league last year, he dominated. Carlisle will turn him loose. I bet JJB averages 20 minutes, 10 points and 4 assists this season.
