good trade for everyone involved. I could care less about the 2 2nd round picks, they would be in europe for 3 years and then MAYBE join the team as third stringers.
at least we got younger and more athletic. if only one of green, wright or williams has a good and solid season, I am excited about this team

rockets fan here.
i like the bets on green and williams, they are young talented players with poor work ethic but maybe with carlisle they turn around they're career.

Wasn't Rick still in Indy when Shawne got there? If so, then there's familiarity involved between the two and that's always good. Looks like the Mavs are betting on young guys who have untapped potential and hoping that Carlisle and Kidd can finally turn their careers around.

I am not too crazy about the trade. But he deserves the spot more than James Singleton.

Re: Shawne Williams traded to Mavs
The problem with the team option is that it has to be exercised prior to the start of THIS season since it is part of his rookie contract. If Dallas refuses to exercise the TO then he becomes an UFA after the season... I still like the trade, but it does require us to make a decision based on what we know now rather than what we will know in one year.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

Shawne Williams is drafted by Rick Carlisie in 2006.

Pacer Fan here,
Yes he was here for 2 years under Carlise. He started to play well under Rick his second year. Cuban came to RC before he made the trade. Jones was redundant with RC's love affair with Stack. Believe me this is a very very minimal risk on your part. 2 second rounders and a guy you were hoping retired for Mc Donalds All-American, 6'9 22yrs old SF that hit over 35% from 3 last year?
The potential is far greater than the risk

I am happy with this trade.
Although when I first heard about it I thought they were talking about Sean Williams of the Nets and I would have been happier with him. But this Shawne Williams is the type of player that we should always try to add (Young and Athletic).

Re: Shawne Williams traded to Mavs
Let's be real. Do not expect too much from the Kid. According to fans on pacers board, they agree that Shawne has got some 'potential' but he's likely a bust candidate.
His major problem rests too much on jumper despite awful percentage. His decision making is questionable. He's althetic for sure. But he's considered a 'tweener' forward so far. Another problem is he's final two locker room problem in Indiana (besides Tinsley) before the trade.
Eddie Jones and 2 second round picks is considered a fair (or the best) offer for the kid. I agree it is a low risk high reward type of trade. Don't expect much from him. He should prove on or off the court to earn any minutes.
Let's watch the Carlisie magic. The new head coach is not a joke. He's a serious magician. His presence is felt in only 3 games.

Re: Shawne Williams traded to Mavs
Eddie Jones, we hardly knew ya.
The 2007 free-agent acquisition of the sweet-shooting swingman will go down as a swing and a miss for the Dallas Mavericks, unless Shawne Williams ends up blossoming like Brandon Bass did last season.
But with Friday's trade for Williams, the Mavericks did accomplish one important goal: They got 14 years younger.
"That's what this was all about," owner Mark Cuban said.
Eddie Jones has the fourth-most 3-pointers in NBA history. He has had a wonderful career. But the bottom line is that he wasn't going to contribute to the Mavericks this season. If he had retired, it would not have broken the Mavericks' hearts.
Since he didn't, they tried to make the best of it by trading him for potential.
"It's not like Eddie hasn't had a great career and that he doesn't have game left, because he does," coach Rick Carlisle said. "I have a lot of respect for him as a person and what he's done in the league. But this is a business decision and a franchise decision."
The Mavericks are hoping fans realize this was a move to try to get something out of what ultimately was a disappointing pick-up in Jones.
What is sad is that Jones will be remembered by Mavericks' fans as a bust. His career was far better than that. Just not in Dallas.

Williams ready for a fresh start with Dallas Mavericks
Parents know all about impressionable kids. Sometimes, they make you proud. Sometimes, they make bad decisions and hang out with the wrong crowd.
Rick Carlisle and Mark Cuban are like parents of the Mavericks. And they have established an environment that encourages players to avoid bad situations.
To his credit, newest Maverick Shawne Williams doesn't try to hide his past indiscretions. And he's hoping a change of scenery will help him put the past behind.
The Mavericks made it clear that staying out of trouble is essential for the 22-year-old forward.
"They laid it on the table of what's expected – zero tolerance," Williams said Sunday. "We got a great group of guys, and I feel them on that. I wouldn't want anybody coming in here and ruining this program either. They've been honest. They told me and I understand.
"I've got to be more professional. And this is a nice environment to be in."

Re: Shawne Williams traded to Mavs
DALLAS — After a rigorous Indiana Pacers practice Friday afternoon, Shawne Williams was wanted upstairs.
"If you go upstairs, it’s because you’re either in trouble or you’ve been traded," Williams said Sunday. "I knew I didn’t get into trouble."
Off-court trouble, though, is the reason why the third-year swingman is no longer in Indiana. Traded to the Dallas Mavericks for veteran Eddie Jones, two future second-round draft picks and cash, Williams said the Mavs’ front office quickly made their expectations clear.
"Oh yeah, they laid it on the table what’s expected of me," Williams said. "They said we’ve got a great group of guys, and I feel for them on that because I feel like I wouldn’t want nobody coming in and ruining this program, neither. I feel like they’ve been honest; they told me, and I understand."
Williams watched Sunday’s practice. He’s not allowed to participate until Jones reports to the Pacers, which he is expected to do today.
The Mavs hold their annual charity golf outing today at Hackberry Country Club in Irving, so Williams will have to wait until Tuesday to get onto the court. The Mavs play an exhibition game at Indiana on Wednesday.
Williams will start off learning three positions — shooting guard, small forward and power forward — in coach Rick Carlisle’s up-tempo scheme.
"He’s got really good length, he’s got quick feet and the ability to chase smaller guys," Carlisle said. "He’s got the length to affect the game against the bigger guys, too."
There is a familiarity factor. Carlisle coached Williams during his rookie season in Carlisle’s final year with the Pacers.
"The only thing I can remember about Rick is he was hard on me," Williams said. "I always had to be there an hour-and-a-half before practice. I feel like it’s a good situation for me."
