NBA Official Power Ranking: Mavs at 14th!!! :(

Post#1 » by GermanFan120 » Tue Oct 28, 2008 4:57 pm

Off: 112.8 (7), Def: 107.7 (9) -- A change in leadership and philosophy is exactly what the Mavs needed, and we're not ready to say that Jason Kidd's not a top five point guard anymore, but there are too many good teams in the West for Dallas to move up much.

i cannot believe this, are we that bad?

do you agree?

GermanFan, of course the Mavericks are not that bad! just remember this, despite all of the bad things and excuses, and drama that the Mavericks had going on during the Playoffs we were on 6 games out of the number 1 spot in the West, 6 games! yes, with Avery's Dictatorship, with J-ho's Marijuana Mishaps, with Jason Kidd being thrown onto Dallas fans that didn't really want him, <= (I'm "Kidd"ing) and the Mavs going something like 0-8 against teams with a winning streak over .500, we were only 6 games away.

This year, we've gotten younger, we've got a little more "umph" in our step, we have Diop/Dampier who combine to make 1 great center that got us to the Finals, we have slashers and rim wreckers in Bass, Green, and Wright, we have PG leadership that we didn't have in Devin because Avery pulled his strings, we have Jet Terry available as a 6th man, a 6th man!!! that's fire off the bench right there! we've got a new coach who is going to have to look good to prove why he was hired so fast, and most importantly we have Dirk Nowitzki, everytime that guy plays a record is broken AND someone has to change the stats for most points ever scored by a Maverick every time he makes a basket!! don't worry, other teams might have traded and gotten guys like Artest, and Gasol, or whatever, but we have soon to be Legends on our team, and if they can pull off what they did last season with all the negativity, I am sure they can surpass that with all the positives they now hold.

They base the power rankings on last year's first round exit. However, with Carlisle as the Mavs new head coach, I think the Mavs can make a legit run this season. How far I don't know. A lot will depend on Dirk, Josh and Kidd. This is my Southwest prediction.

New Orleans 57-25 (Chris Paul and David West wil be tough to stop)
Dallas 53-29 (Josh will average 20 points a game)
Houston 46-36 (Yao needs to show he can finish the season without getting hurt again)
San Antonio 44-38 (Manu is losing his hair. It must be what gives him his strength)
Memphis 26-56 (Conley isn't that good)

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

finally some people that have the same mind set that i do. I think that with a new coach (new attitude), better chemistry with kidd and everyone, and Diop, i think this team is a team to be reckon with in the playoffs. i see us being a 5th-6th place team. Its hard to not say we're not number one in the southwest division but i know we're NOT fourth like some "experts" are saying. San Antonio is going to be disappointing due to their age and i think will be playing N.O or LA in the 1st round come playoff time. Basically all i am saying is WE'RE BACKKK!!!

I also agree with the SW rating os scramm if Kidd, Wright, Green and Williams all pan out along with Howard going back to his 2006-07 self and Dirk + Terry not regressing any.

There is way too many "ifs."

Plus you can never discount the afftect of injuries (any team).

Be careful what you say DirkTheGreat. I think we are closer to being back to the team of the 90s than we are the team of 2 or 3 years ago. At least that is the direction we are headed.

I hope you are right and I am wrong though.

Our best offseason in recent memory with Diop Green Williams and Singleton plus we have a returning Wright to play starter at SG and Bass improving and a new coach that isn't a tard with an offseason to work his magic installing a new system with Kidd.

We threaten LA and they better know it. If we win it all I will not be surprised.

DEEP is what we are.
Dampier Diop one of the best defensive center rotations not really sure if there is a better tandem defensively.
Dirk and Bass is the best PF tandem in the league.
Kidd and Terry = 2 starting quality PG's = flexibility
Wright Green at SG the hole is looking like it is filled
Howard returns hungry to make up for last season and his new understudies look to have tremendous potential Williams mostly but Singleton did well

Stackhouse and his expiring packaged with the right players will likely turn into something decent at the TDL. This team is solid and capable of exerting itself to play faster and harder than other less athletic teams with out the depth we enjoy. Add another decent acquisition and you won't even need to play the games just give us the trophy.

One of the biggest keys for this team is to limits Stacks minutes. The less, the better IMO. And lets not get tooo cocky about our chances. There are just as many Mav fans thinking we won't make the playoffs as there are ones who think we have a chance at a trophy. Just like abell curve, many of us feel it's playoffs and then home in May.

I do not think Stack will be moved at the trade dealine. Looking at our salary and the stock market, I really doubt if Cuban wants to add more salary and tax the the 24 mil of tax he is paying already + kill any forseeable flexability. Stack's partially guaranteed contract next year is attractive here. The only way I move Stack or Dampier for bigger/longer contracts is if it is a hell of an upgrade...like Stack for Dunleavy, Dampier for Carter, Dampier/Stack for AK47/Collins or something on that magnitude. Huge salary absorbtion for minimal gain (like Stack for Crawford) just is not and should not happen.

The Mavs ranks 14th? Great! Prove them wrong then.

Altanta Hawks (rising)
Boston Celtics (strong)
Cleveland Knight (not verstaile enough)
Dallas Mavericks (declining)
Detriot Pistons (declining)
Houston Rockets (strong)
Los Angles Lakers (strong)
Memphis Grizzles (rising, but not enough?)
Pheonix Suns (declining)
Philadelpha Sixers (rising)
Portland Blazers (rising, but not enough?)
San Antonio (declining)
Sacremento Kings (rising, but not enough?)
Toronto Raptors (rising, but not enough?)
Utah Jazz (average)

Well, I can really make a list. But I don't think we're at the bottom among the group despite ageing. The strongest teams are real hard to challenge.
