So you guys want to trade Dirk?

I was reading your board and it seems like the majority of you agree that you'd want to trade Dirk for younger talent. It just suprises me because he seems like the best thing going on your team, though I've only watched one of your games this year (seen many last year) I read the box scores and he seems very efficient.

The Dirk trade talk reminds me of when the Lakers were struggling the last couple years and a lot of people blamed Kobe even though he was our best player. I'd think you'd want to trade everyone BUT Dirk. IMO the Mavs have always lacked a big time Center.

If you had a true enforcer/ scoring big man, you'd be a major contender. (EG maybe Josh Howard, Jason Terry, and Stackhose for somoeone like Ilgauskas, Chandler Okafor or Dalembert?) Just an example. The salaries probably don't match and you guys are giving up more than you're getting, but if you guys could land a true Center, to go with Kidd a true PG and Dirk a true superstar scorer, it'd be worth all you'd lose.

Most of us love Dirk and don't think there is anything wrong with him. However unless we can work out a deal to put the right people around him we don't think this Maverick team can win a Championship. The very fact that Dirk is still really good and efficient as you say is the reason that he has some real trade value. If we wait until he is clearly declining then he does not have as much value. I think there may be a team that has a real chance to compete for the Championship who may be willing to give some young talent because Dirk may put them over the top.

That would be OK with me since it would give Dirk a real chance to get a ring and we would begin our rebuilding process.

Unfortunately after everything that has happend in Mav-land since Game 3 of the 2006 Finals, a lot of people are quick to panic. There is no denying Dirk is the most talented player we have but the front office has failed to surrounded him with the proper talent and assumed they could rely on the same formula and same team for the most part that got us to the Finals.

Unfortunately it's becoming apparent that the stars were aligned for Dallas that season and this team isn't a championship one as currently constructed. To make matters worse our trade chips are relatively diminished thanks to the Kidd trade.

I still think the Mavs are one good trade (perhaps of Gasol-like proportions) from being a top team again. I'd love to turn our expirings (Stack) and promising talent (Bass, Green) into someone like Michael Redd or Mike Miller but for whatever reason, ie. Cuban, most teams seem to not want to deal with us.

Why would those teams trade their centers? I think the mavs fans are looking a the performance so far and do not see a team that can win and go deep into the playoffs. I think the mavs are going to have to rebuild in the near future, and it would surprise me if Dirk re-signed here. We will see.

I dont want to see Dirk leave Dallas but I think he deserves a title, and the Mavs need to start looking towards the future- and those are starting to be conflicting goals

Maybe you just read the thread titles, b/c not one post on here is blaming Dirk for anything. Some of us want to start rebuilding and it would be nice to see Dirk win a ring, which isn't a possibility anymore in Dallas.

Trust me, there are plenty of trade wishes for the other players on the team, but unfortunately they have bad contracts (Terry, Dampier Diop) or do not have much value (Josh, Bass) to net an allstar player to help Dirk. Unless of course, Jerry West is willing to help us with a Gasol-like trade

haha.. good answers. Well I wish you guys the best and love Dirk as a player. Trust me, when the Heat took that series we were pretty angry too. Shaq spent the next 2 years talking about it. good luck this year and nice steal with Greene.
