Possible blockbuster for Dirk?
A pipe dream, but it makes sense for all involved: Cavs, Mavs, Blazers, Grizzlies
Cavs get: Nowitzki, Stackhouse, Frye
Mavs get: Varejao, Szczerbiak, Batum, Outlaw
Blazers get: Conley, Bass, Snow
Grizzlies get: Hickson, Rodriguez
For the sake of full disclosure, I'm a Cavs fan. I think the Cavs give up a lot, but they get a legit star and a good shot at the title. The team that gets the best player always has to over-pay -- unless it's the Lakers! The biggest concern is whether or not the Cavs would have enough defense left to beat good teams during the play-offs.
Mavs get a slew of young, quality players and Wally, who can still shoot and offers cap relief at the end of the year. Outlaw has starter potential and AV gives them an active, bog defender.
Blazers get to see if change of venue helps Conley and serviceable big in Bass. Snow becomes mentor and unofficial assistant coach to young team.
Thoughts?

Mavs counteroffer:
Mavs trade:
Gerald Green
Brandon Bass
Jerry Stackhouse
Jason Terry
Josh Howard
Cavs trade:
Lebron James
Zydrunis Ilgauskas
For the sake of disclosure, I'm a Mavs fan. I think the Mavs give up a lot, but they get a semi-decent star and to make the salaries work we will take on big Z for you even though it gives us 3 legit C's. The biggest concern for us is where to fit James cause he wants to handle the ball all the time and Kidd is our PG.
Cavs get a slew of young players and Stack provides that veteran toughness that everyone keeps talking about.
That's my 2 cents anyway.

Look this guys not even a Mavs fan and he is saying what i've been saying for months now..
The Mavs window with Dirk isn't closed yet... I know it's easy to overreact, but the guy just turned 30 and his game isn't as reliant on athleticism as a lot of others, plus his work ethic is off the charts, so I could see a good 4-5 years left of excellent Dirk. After Kidd expires this year they'll have a lot of options, don't be surprised if Dallas is a big player in 2010.

Re: Possible blockbuster for Dirk?
The point is that Dirk is still young enough to trade to a team to help them achieve what they're looking to do in exchange for equal young prospect/draft/rising star value in exchange. In 4 years we still won't have a title and Dirk's value will be shot.
I will say that the order of selling off the team shouldn't start with Dirk because after all trade avenues have been exhausted we can see what we have as a team with Dirk then assess whether or not to trade him off with the rest of the guys that we couldn't get equal value for in trade.
Besides that fact that selling Dirk puts blood in the water for the sharks to start the feeding frenzy on the team.

Batum and Outlaw are young talented prospects? Cleveland giving up Flopearjo and journeyman Wally is giving up a lot?
Thanks for the laugh.

Honestly, I don't want Gibson. I'd rather have MoWilliams and/or West than Gibson, but there is no way they get Dirk without giving up Lebron. I'm not saying that is even close as Dallas steals in that deal, but the sum of their other parts will not get Dirk.dirkforpres wrote:Yuck! No trash from Cleveland unless its James or Gibson.

Really dude? I there's no way that I would've guessed that Dirk would be heading back to your team in this propossal.
Also, tell me what your interpretation of 'a lot' is. Since Varejao is the only player of value that the Cavs are giving up, you're saying giving up him would be a lot compared to the Mavs giving up Dirk. If Varejao is honestly that good in your opinion, then in your flawed logic, Dirk is probably worth at least as much as MJ in his prime.

Blazers get a better package for trading Outlaw than we get for trading Dirk. (Please Use More Appropriate Word)

Re: Possible blockbuster for Dirk?
really, so we trade DIRK and get back scrubs and so called cap room.... NO GM in the world would accept that? whose side are u on, buddy? I believe we should go after Kaman, now that he is available... it wouldn't hurt.

Wow I have seen some awful trade scenarios on here before but what makes this one worse is the fact this guy really thinks this would be a good deal for the Mavs. I dont know if I would trade any of those guys for Bass straight up and he wants us to trade Dirk and Bass. Absolutley ridiculous !

You didn't have to mention you were a Cavs fan. Your trade says it for you.
