I say yes. Talentwise there's no way they could miss the playoffs. But effortwise is eh..

The only way we can get into the playoffs is if all of our core unit can actually all play well in games together (which doesnt look too promising), or by trade, which I think is more likely even though I dont think we'll be getting a Pau Gasol-like steal based on what we have to give away. Right now, Ive got the Mavericks missing the playoffs only because it looks almost as though they are in tank mode through 10 games into the season or however many games we have played and everyone looks like they dont care out there.

no way they make the playoffs this year. Vegas had them winning 46 games at the beginning of the season ( I wish I had placed that under bet now) and all the experts had them as either an eight or nine seed. We now see that they are 10 times worst than what we originally thought.

If management was smart, they would trade everyone on the team and start rebuilding around young players and draft picks but they aren't so they will ride this on out for the rest of the season, give some more veteran scrubs millions and millions of dollars and miss the playoffs again in 2010. I can't wait.

The Western Conference locks.

Houston
New Orleans
Utah
Portland
Los Angeles Lakers
Phoenix

2 spots left. I want to include Denver, but they've yet to come together, so they need more time after the blockbuster trade.

That leaves us and the Spurs battling it out. The Spurs have a better chance of snapping out of it if they can stay healthy. Right now we should be taking advantage of the absence of Tony Parker.

I'm staying positive and say we make the playoffs.

Good thing I was not in Vegas because I was absolutely convinced that this team would win 46+ games and would have put good money on it if I had the chance. Now only 8 games in and I am not sure that this team can go .500

I find it hard to believe that Cuban is going to be happy sitting around this whole year and watching this team win 36-38 games and is not going to do anything.

The only thing Cuban and Donnie are going to do is trade Jason Kidd but they are going to butcher that by taking on longer salaries and screwing up the future even more. Its an ugly year that is only going to get uglier.

Just for discussion sake, what do you think would have happened if the Mavericks had traded Bass and Kidd for Iverson. We would have had no point guard but finally had someone who can consistently create his own shot and would have been a legit #2 scorer (or possibly #1). And no I haven't considered salaries at all so don't ask.

wake up guys, if there is no change on the roster soon, no way we can make the playoffs!

it is pathetic that we were talking about if the Mavs can advance to the 2nd round this year, and all of the sudden we are talking about the possibility of making playoffs and rebuilding and stuff...

i miss Avery Johnson. It was not his fault last year. It was the FO's!

The same or worse this team still would lack a PG or would have one of the smallest backcourts of all time (JET and AI). Don't tell me Green either JET for some dumb reason starts over him now. This team is missing something between the ears and until that is fixed than this team will continue to struggle.

Phoenix and Portland are not locks. I don't even know if the 5-4 Rockets are a lock.

I guarantee that Iverson would not win 1 more game than Kidd would have with this bunch of players and coaches. And LMAO at Iverson and consistent being used in the same sentence.

Is it possible that that thing that is missing is toughness and/or heart? Isn't that what Allen Iverson brings to the table?

I respect your opinion but there is no way that you can guarantee something like that. And by the way, Iverson is just as consistent as Devin Harris, who you were always making a big deal about.

In no way am I saying that this would have been a good deal, just wanted to get some opinions. Really, I am just ready for something to happen, anything.

I remember that thread. Dirkfor pres said . . .

dirkforpres wrote:I cant believe how bad these so called experts are predicting us to be. I mean, I am not expecting a #1 seed or anything, but I at least expect 50+ wins

I actually think you guys will be in the running for one of the last playoff spots in the West when all is said and done. I mean you guys are 2-3 on the road which is a 40% win percentage on the road, if you can keep that pace for the rest of the year on the road you'll have about 16 or 17 road wins. At home, you guys have been an incredible 0-4 which doesn't make sense. That is obviously not going to last for the whole year, so you just need to fix whatever is wrong at home and win 2 out of every 3 home games from now and you'll be in the battle at the end of the season.

If the ceiling for this team is the 8th spot and a first round exit then I would rather tank the season and start unloading our garbage contracts.

The most exitement Mav fans will have this season is the last week of June.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner. This team will get better as the season goes on, but we're 9 games into the season and the Mavs telecast crew was questioning whether their psyche would recover from the Orlando loss. Just over 10% of the season gone, and we're already questioning if the team is too emotionally fragile to recover from a loss? Bad, bad signs my friends.

This start is perfect for a rebuild. Does everyone realize that we would currently get the 8th pick in the coming draft (based solely on standings, of course)? I don't know much about this next draft or the crop of players available, but a lottery pick in the top 10 is always a good start.

Of course, we could always shoot for the playoffs instead. If the Mavs were a top 4 team, I'd say that anything's possible in the playoffs...let's make a run for it. But if they're struggling to get in or to even crack that top 4, chances are slim to none they'll make it beyond the second round. And what good does that do for an inevitable rebuild?

Like I say, if we're rebuilding eventually, whether it's this year or 5 years down the road, I'd like to have as many shots at lottery picks as I could. We've got a shot this year.

The problems for this team is they really on players that can't get it done Stack(too many mistakes), JET (liabilty on defense and limited in his ability to play PG), Diop (too timid of a player) and JJB (just plain sucks). The fact that the coach refuses to give Green minutes because he supposidly struggles on defense yet we watch JET get killed on a nightly basis. Add in the fact this team crashes in the 4th quarter when it has the lead and you get a 2-7 team heading for a 30 win season.

My hope is that Damp continues to play well and becomes an asset instead of a liabilty. Then when the Mavs are sitting at 20-30 someone will want him bad enough they take either JET's contract or DIop's with him. However my worst nightmare is if this team is at 20-30 and I hear Cuban and Donnie say "we still like our team."
