If Kidd decides to sign a 2 year deal with an option, it will be a player option, not a team option. That is, unless you pay him more than 13 mil/yr. And if you pay him more than 3 mil, releasing Howard would not be enough cap room to get Lebron.
That said, i don't think Kidd will ever be a deciding factor of where Lebron spends his next 6 years (when Kidd is 38-44 yo).

Re: perfect 2010 offseason plan
now I'm getting sick if this lebron talk goes on.
lebron will either resign with the cavs or be signed by NYK or NJN.
LA is the last but also least possibility.
no way will he sign with dallas.
no way
sorry

Re: perfect 2010 offseason plan
2010 maybe the Mavs could go after Caron Butler or Richard Jefferson.?? AK47 would be 30...Tony Parker stays put or to the Lakers...Dalembert or Tyson Chandler could replace Damp...Michael Redd will be too old....Kobe will be old and still wouldn't come here...Just going through the list after the first tier players I am just not too hopeful about Mavs in the 2010 free agent mkt. The perfect 2010 might be acquiring talent through trades the next two years rather than dumping salary for a dream of Wade,James,or Bosh and hope..(hasn't happened yet)... one of the older stars sign with us for the MLE.

Those are the type of FAs that the mavs are going to be able to sign, if any. Mavs have had horrible runs at FAs,and I can say have never signed any impact player in free Agency. Dampier had no other market to go to. I almost wish mavs could trade for contracts that go beyond 2010 and just play it safe, trading expiriings for those longer term players. It is not nearly as fun, but more realistic given their history. I hate to come off froma defeatest POV, but there are certain realities in the League, and one is that mavs cannot sign impact quality FAs.
