From a Portland PR perspective, there is no way they are trading Oden. He is on every Blazer billboard. His jersey's are everywhere (more than Roy). He is marketed as part of the "big 3". And this was just his first 30 +/- games in the NBA. Will he be the next Michael Olowakandi or Kwame Brown? Maybe, but right now there is no way they trade him.

Jason Kidd was part of the big three here the first time around...the three Js.... Billboards all over Dallas had Jimmy,Jamal, and Jason on them. He was traded. I bet Portland would trade him if the right deal came along.

I think the Mavs have zero shot of landing Oden here with what we have to offer in a trade. We really don't need Oden here until Damp is too old to be productive.

Toni Braxton is not in Portland and Kidd is not a big man last I heard.

And Oden is not a hall of fame point guard either. He is an always injured first round flop so far.

Kidd wasn't HOF either in his rookie year. He had to sring a couple of triple doubles late in the season to tie Hill for ROY. Not saying Oden is in the race (I think Mayo & Rose are the clear cut favorites) but if he throws a couple of 20-10 games near the end of the season, he may be in the race.

Point is...there is no way they trade Oden this year.

Oh, & BTW, we did not trade Kidd in his 1st year with us either. He played 2 & 1/2 years before trading him.

First of all, Portland wont be trading Oden anytime soon.. Its technically his rookie year, and hes coming off of a hard injury.

Second of all, if in fact, he does turn into an OIawakandi-Kwame type bust, do we really want him? Trading for him this early in his career would cost Dirk at least.

Well my point is some stupid billboards or promos will not keep a team from trading a player, big man or not. Yes I agree, more likely than not they don't trade Oden. A billboard did not stop Kidd(or any other player) from being traded away and will not keep Oden from being traded in the slim chance some team puts a great package together to get him. Portland will not give him away and I don't see any team trading a top 20 player to get an injury prone defensive minded center.

I much rather stick with Damp/Diop/Bass/Singleton at center than offer any more than a Stack package for Oden. Right now Damp > or = Oden in every way but age.

If we are still competing this year, you are right BLKMN22, but if a Oden-Dampier based swap was to be offered (has less than a zero % chance of happening) Dallas would be dumb to pass it up as our chances for a title down the road with Oden is much better than our chances at a title this year with Dampier.

Yes Dallas would be dumb to pass up Oden for Damp due to the age factor and they play the same position. But for this year and next I will be just fine with Damp/Diop/pf at the center. I would not trade Dirk, Howard, Terry, Kidd for Oden as long as we have Damp and he is healthy, not to mention Portland probably would not take less than a Dirk package for Oden.

I'd do Oden for any "one" on our team except Dirk. And even then, if it was Aldridge-Oden, I'd pay for Dirk's plane tickets.

Too risky for my blood. I just have that gut feeling Oden is not going to very healthy throughout his career. I would not want to put all my eggs in the Oden basket. I would rather go after Brook Lopez, Marc Gasol, Emeka Okafor etc. instead.

Okafor is paid way too much for my liking; he's barely better than Dampier. Lopez and Gasol are great, but I think Oden will be better than both of them. JMHO but it is to early to tell. Honestly, I think Gasol ends up like Bogut, Oden ends up like Okafor and Lopez ends up a little better than David Lee (shooting).

I heard this before and Sam Bowie's name kept popping up when I see him.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
