It's a very disappointing loss, but lots of good came out of it, the glaring bad thing is what we expected, the moment Dinwiddie goes to bench, Luka is much easier to blitz, I think Wood can be a good release valve until a good player comes along.

Yeah i agree with that. I think Kidd is trying to figure out what works and what not. It was a bit easier with Brunson since he had sick ball handles and he could cover Luka on offense but Dinwiddie will have to play in much better form to be a real threat. So it's basically Luka and Wood for now. It is also evident that THJ will need couple of games to slow down a bit and fix his shot to what it was.

Problem with that roster is that Luka's usage will go up even more. If someone believes that he can play 82 games RS with usage near 40%, play good D and be efficient, good luck with that.

It has been constantly proved that Luka with too high usage, especially in late game, is NOT a good thing to DAL. We always need 2-3 players can self create offsense. Luka + 4 shooters watching him solo on the court, is not a good thing.

He definitely wasn't good but I agree that he wasn't bad. In this game in particular, he was better defensively then McGee. McGee just got owned and made mistakes throughout.

The story of his career.
The guy has been a backup all of his career and not sure why anyone expected much more here at age 34.

And the worst part, they gave him 3 years contract.

With a squad full of streaky shooters, you dictate mismatches and ride with the hot hands. You have to save Luka's stamina and legs for a long run. Find a balance. Defense on Ayton and Booker are poor. Find help. Clearly, Ntilikina is missed.

Rick Carlisle rotation and set role do not work. Neille mad scientist approach is more desirable.

The Mavs need elite stopper big time.

Of course we don't have a lock down defender but our wings are good defender (Bullock, DFS, Kleber and hope Green), i don't think our defense is a problem... With a good chemistry and team defense we were 7th in defensive ratings last year (and our C was Powell), It could be only improve over next months.

We need a top two way wing and they will trade for that kind of player.

Some more insight about Wood here on this weeks Hoops Collective from McMahon

First 7 min he talks about the situation. Again Wood is super gifted offensively, but is a bit of a bonehead thus no one here in Detroit was upset when he left.

Sounds like so far Wood is doing the right things except wearing the wrong sweatsuit to the team event

For sure he had some attitude problems... But he played in bad teams with bad organization.

This is THE year for him. He has to dimostrate what he is.
We have all the stuff... Good system, good teammates and Luka.

We will see.

I love the fit, but I'll believe when I see it from Wood with the off the court/attitude things.

It is easier to say than have it done. How many two way wings are there in the whole league? May be around 10-15? Really can't think of anyone who is currently attainable.......

Yes you are right but if we want to win we need that kind of player. Nico ha to work for this.

DeRozan isn't a lock down defender but would be perfect with this roster, they should have pursuit him a couple years ago when he was FA. At any cost.
