And that's why it's sad that we couldn't get a win yesterday. Just solid Kyrie would be enough.

Luka is once again proving he's the best player in the league averaging 31 ppg on 51.1% FG. But the Mavs can't possibly win the series with Kyrie averaging 14.0 ppg on 35.1% FG, he really needs to play much better.

Only thing that could save this next season is when Kyrie recruits a superstar to demand a trade to Dallas to add a 3rd big name. KD, Lebron, you name it.

I believe Lively will be better for sure. Problem is that Josh and THJ have no value whatsoever to get someone instead.

Very real possibility that THJ contract just expire and they let him walk. Trade value is all time low for THJ but his dad thinks they could trade him for Michael Jordan.

The statements of our players after this L are sad... They accepted that Boston is better. Wow.

Great attitude for a team coached by a guy who just has 1 skill ... Motivate the roster.

Epic fail.

Mavs are in kinda strange/difficult position, great playoffs run, but the only 2 tradeable players were disastrous and they have to pay DJJ. Kinda difficult to get better in offseason.

Yesterday L was a disaster, it's more than a 0-2 series.

Boston played a very averages game and we choked... I don't see this team goes 4-1. So no trophy.

And Kidd just resigned multiple years

To be fair, as it stands, Mavs are the #2 team in the NBA right now. "To get better" means to be the NBA champion. So the current challenges can be attributed to the Celtics simply having 4 stars versus Dallas' 2. To be that you probably need to assemble the Golden State Avengers. #2 out of 30 isn't too bad for 0.5 year of the rebuild.

I'm not saying they aren't good, I'm saying it's difficult to get better. Okc will most likely get better and probably some other teams too.

Not as simple... Be the #2 this year could not means be the #2 next year with the same roster...

It's not automatic go to the Finals every year.

Yea that doesnt mean a thing, playoffs are about matchup, Dal could just as easily been out Round 1 2 or 3 depending on who they played. Memphis will be back with a bang next year, OKC will be even better, maybe much better depending on what they do. Minny, Den, NO are not going anywhere. Lakers will always be a player. Kyrie is getting older. This was the year to win, we had a shot, it was a fun ride, but sadly looks like its a wrap.

The saddest thing is that the narrative of NBA will be "Boston is too good, unbeatable" when they are just a very good team.
They are not Wade-Bosh-Lebron, Kobe-Shaq, Pop's Spurs or Steph's GS.
I never would have thought that a team with just Horford and KP at PF/C rotation can win a ring. I was wrong.
But it's very depressing honestly.

All the opponents choked in some ways in this PO and make more easy their path.

Kidd is getting outcoached. Mazzula wasnt even there when Kyrie was in Bos but the team knows how to defend and stop him. Kidd was the damn coach while KP was here for a brief stretch, but clueless on how to stop him. Maxi should know better than anyone, but doesnt. Knock the dude on his butt, run into his chest, elbow him, get physical. He wants to be a run way model, hit him in the face

this one sucks. such a winnable game...
But i am still far away from saying this is over. Just get a win at home and we are back into the series.
interesting things will be how the mood of the celtics is when they lose a game and Tatum has another bad game. What if KP is 100% anymore. Can we get into their heads?

Maxi injury was one of the reason of our great PO run... With him available it would have been much tough.

We need a 4-1 run... With Kidd as coach.

it's more likely that irving is right and the earth is flat

I think DJJ defense isn't effective, and Mavs can use 3rd ball handler, to limit the on ball pressure and TOs, I'd bump Exum minutes to 25-30 at the expense of DJJ, and let him to let it fly if open on the perimeter and not get cute.

The problem I'm seeing is Luka pace allows Boston to set their defense up for every Mavs possession . Kyrie pace goth them back into the game

Mavs have lost because players outside Luka were shooting 11% wide open 3s. They lost because Kyrie can't make a shot except layup. His Fg % is 35 and 0% for 3.

No doubt the teammates and coach are the biggest issue, but can you please for once admit Luka isnt perfect. His free throws are ridiculous, zero excuse for a star of his caliber to be this bad. He also needs to stop wanting to get on Sportscenter/Sportstalk with behind the back awe dropping passes, how many times do they turn into turnovers?

the free throws are a huge concern. As a team the Mavs shot 66% from the line (compared to 95% by the Celtics).
Gafford and Luka were the main culprits, they left 7 points on the line. Guess how much the Mavs lost by?

Obviously they aren't going to shoot 100% but they can't afford to shoot so bad from the line AND from three.

You are acting like Boston played a good game and Mavs are the only team who can improve.

This was the game to win. Unfortunately.

No you're absolutely right. Celtics missed a lot of shots but i do think the Mavs were better defensively. Mavs should have won this game if they hit their free throws and/or kyrie didn't play so poorly.

Mavs don't have the same margin of error as the celtics since they are far less talented. So they can't afford to leave free points on the line.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
