I watched the Woj & Lowe trade special show. Like a dozen different headlines on realgm.com were just off-the-cuff comments Lowe or Woj made on that show.

Woj did not report anything. Woj simply said the Mavs could have interest in a guy like Drummond or Harrell. He did not say it came from a source. He said he was just citing an example.

Based on what I can find, teams over the luxury tax lines can be found below. These teams can use Courtney Lee by the TDL to erase that luxury tax or repeater tax figure off their check books.

Portland Trail Blazers - $12.44M over the tax line.
* Minus Rodney Hood's $2.85M salary break or insurance or something.

Golden State Warriors - $5.9M over the tax line.
*$15M inclusive of repeater tax violations

Miami Heat - $3.8M over the tax line

Oklahoma City Thunder - $921K over the tax line
*Drastically lowered after basically giving away Jerami Grant for nothing

Of all those teams, only the Blazers and Thunder could realistically use Courtney Lee's expiring. And maybe the reason why we haven't got anything done with Portland is because they also need a big man like us. For OKC, the Dennis Schroeder for Lee rumor floated a couple of weeks ago.

The Golden State Warriors (pending any moves) will write a $15M check for basically nothing. So I dont care how rich you are, but $15M is $15M. So they might look to send D'Angelo Russell out. Which I would assume we would be in line for given the interest we had for a Kemba-Luka backcourt tandem. Among other teams.

Brunson, Jackson, Powell, Wright and a pick to Orlando for Bamba, Augustin and Aminu.

C - Zinger / Kleber / Boban
PF - Aminu / Bamba / Broekhoff
SF - Luka / DFS / Roby
SG - TH / Reaves / Lee
PG - Curry / Augustin / Barea

The Mavs replaces DFS with Aminu who can guard bigger player (3-5) and play Powell (rim roller and glue player) and DFS role (elite stopper + hitting corner 3) in one body. This allows the Mavs to bench DFS for Curry and provide much better spacing offensively. This also gives the Mavs multiple defenders (Aminu, DFS, Reaves). Bamba, a texas native, could be a big long-term piece next to Zinger and Luka as a shotblocking floor spacer and rim runner. This also gives the Mavs able defender upfront with huge edge in term of mobility. Augustin and Barea also provide more 2nd unit play than Brunson or Wright. The Mavs fixes all issues in one trade:

1. Lack of defense upfront.
2. Lack of consistent defenders.
3. Lack of stable 2nd unit production.
4. Lack of cap flexibility to operate in 2020 offseason for Van Vleet, for example.

As a capable pick-n-roll PG, Augustin, another Texas native, could give the Mavs a bench floor manager if Barea retires next summer for a hometown discount. This is a pretty good situation as the Mavs could renounce the cap hold and re-sign DJ at BAE.

As for Orlando, Aminu and Bamba may take way too much. In all likelihood, Orlando settles with Vucevic, Gordon, Issaac frontcourt starting role. Committing too much cap rooms for bench players do not make sense. Meanwhile, Orlando is still in search of capable PG. Fultz is inconsistent. Brunson with all the champion experience and maturity makes a lot of sense. Wright also adds dimension backing up Fournier who's not known for defense. Adding multiple young playmakers to roster fit Orlando timeline as well. Powell fits the uptempo basketball style and could serve the scoring role off bench as lob target.

what do you guys think about a Bogdan Bogdanovic for Curry straight up.??
He's gonna be a RFA next summer.. Heres why i think its possible.. the kings offered him a $51m/4yrs extension and he turned it down. plus i think he and Doncic are good friends. He, Hield and Fox kinda have that same playstyle which is why i think Luke Walton has him on the bench even though Fox has been injured a lot this season. the reason why i think theres a slight chance the kings get interested is on top of Currys exceptional games, he is on a really cheap contract for the next 4yrs.

For us though, the benefit is that we get someone whos a good defender(dude has a 6'11 wingspan which is enormous for his height) who can also make plays himself and is pretty solid with Luka.
Curry is a much better 3pt shooter at 44% but bogdanovic isnt that far behind at 38%
this is just wishful thinking lolll because im against signing of trading for a big name.

Here are some notable UFAs this summer
Montrezl Harrell
Jae Crowder
Josh Jackson
Bismack Biyombo
Joe Harris
Harry Giles

Im more interested in Josh Richardson who has a player option this summer.

I dont think he has a long term place in Philly with how stacked they are. He is in a slump right now. He and Doncic share the same agent. Richardson can play off ball a lot. Meaning he runs around and spots up for jumpers. And plays really good defense too. To me he fits with Doncic bettet than Bogdan.

Dallas just has to find a way to clear salary for Richardson. He's pretty young so if we get him he can be here long term. I'd say Richardson this summer and we try to get Bam Adebayo next summer. That's gonna piss off Pat Riley even further.

No. I’d probably trade Delon Wright for him though, since he isn’t playing much here anyway (not that I agree with it)

I wouldnt want Bogs, we need wing defenders, our offense is fine. Bogs is a liability on that end. I agree with ark, my target would be J-Rich. if Philly is desperate for shooting and wants a great affordable compliment with Simmons, Curry just may be the guy and perhaps the framework of a swap.

Sounds like we are out of the Iggy running.

That's good news if they wanted any kind of serious asset.

I have to think Iggy will come back and look cooked. It's hard to take time off at that age and find a rhythm again quickly.

I hear there is interest for Vucevic. Not sure how certain is this but Vooch is likely not on the block. Not sure what the magic will get of value from Dallas. Maybe is something like Gordon and Vooch for Porzingis and Clee. I like Porzingis in Dallas and Gordon and Vooch will be too much

Our offense is more than fine, IF Doncic can do everything & set NBA historic records for usage. But, if that's not a good idea to overuse one player, then the offense needs help & Bogdanovic is one of the better options available.

I'd love a Seth Curry for J-Rich swap, but I don't see why Philly does it. Their biggest strength is they can put Simmons, J-Rich, Thybulle, Horford, and Embiid on the floor and dare you to score.

Thybulle is shooting over 50% from 3 since Nov 1st. If I'm Philly, I'd rather keep my defense in tact & just bet on the Rook to keep improving.

I heard the rumor is DeRozan goes to ORL for a draft asset & a player. Seems more likely than they'd every move Vucevic to Dallas.

Not a chance that Dallas trades Porzingis unless he fist fights Cuban, Carlisle, or Doncic

Things to ponder on:

Should now be the time to buy low on Ben Simmons?

Philly really isnt happy with him and his lack of shooting impedes what they are trying to do with everyone else. And it got me thinking if a coaching /scenery change would do Simmons good? Im not for his $30M a year salary, but putting those things aside, who here thinks he can play PF here with KP at center? Or small ball center here with KP roaming the perimeter. Simmons is 6'11 and quick. Doesnt shoot so he belongs inside. Just a question of fit, money notwithstanding.

Next to impossible. Philly likely would still fetch a young player and a couple picks in return and there’s no way Dallas can outbid a rebuilding team like OKC or New Orleans for him

But in terms of fit, will he play well beside KP?

The fit is there because he’s a solid defender, great size and athleticism, and an elite ball handler. A good coach would be able to at least fit Simmons with at least a decent mid range jumper, which is why he had Magic Johnson comps on draft day.

I think if there was a world where we had Luka-Simmons-KP, Rick would make Simmons shoot and turn him into Shawn Marion

Elton Brand, Sixers GM's job might be on the line if they dont go deep into the playoffs or finals this season. He was the one who jumped the gun and signed Horford to that long deal, signed Simmons to $30M per long term. Basically if they dont win with their current squad, they are screwed as options are limited with Horford, Tobias Harris, Embiid and Simmons all making mega dollars. I dont think they can even re-sign Josh Richardson if some team comes along to sign him. Philly chatter has Brand and Brett Brown on the hot seat and Ben Simmons is that odd man out due to his lack of skills. We'll see down the road for sure.

They’re stuck with Horford and would never trade Embiid, but Harris and Simmons are young enough that even with their massive salaries should still net a good return. It makes a lot of sense for Philly to trade for a more traditional PG like Jrue

I think with any trade the most important thing to decide is what's expendable, in order the least valuable rotational pieces/large contract in order are lee, jackson, brunson, hardaway jr, powell, dfs, curry, maxi, wright, porzingis, luka. Lee has contract dump value if we take long money, I'd float out lee Jackson and brunson to see if we can get a solid starter on a longer deal. Regardless, we have to move some of these pieces, successful playoff teams don't play 11 guys a night. We need a 9 man rotation max.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
