And that same Clippers team (on the 2nd night of a B2B) also waxed the Mavs like 3 nights prior, so we cant really laugh at anyone else's misfortunes right now. Mavs have too many glaring holes on the roster, even still.

Was thinking the same, we lost to these guys after they were already drained from the night before. This team is way too flawed sadly

On the topic of coaches, Coach Mosley has been working magic with ORL. Guy was practically begging for the HC job here and Luka and him were very tight. Missed opportunity on a bright young coach by hiring Kidd instead.

That was because Cuban decided to side with RC but soon later RC quit himself because of Cuban  Unfortunately Mavs have an owner who has way too much pride to do the right thing.

Players also seem to love him and look up to him in ORL, he doesn't have the greatest defensive personnel and is making them best defense in the league, makes you wonder why the Mavs sucked at defense when he was defensive coach.

Michael Porter Jr is heating up and Jamal Murray is back ,look for the Nuggets to outscore everybody and play just enough defense to get the wins.
Jokic,MPJ &AG intimidate other teams up front . Mavs fans are clueless if they think adding a perimeter 3and D wing is going to shut these guys down.
I dont understand with great scorers like Luka and Kyrie, adding a defender is going to cover up for their lack of defensive skills .They try but scoring is what makes them great and most teams cant stop. Mavs need to add to what Luka and Kyrie do best. That means if you can get a 6'10 player who can get his own shots by himself its a no brainer to get him.

Luka can control the game like no one else except Jokic who does just as good but has more toys to play with.

We can make good trades fo sure but a team who starts a 19yo rookie has no plan to win the ring in 2/3 years or they are extremely dumb.

Will that change at the TDL? I don't know.

Yet here's Luka and Kyrie avg 55 ppg between them which makes this statement look ridiculous . Just because Lively is playing better than advertised and getting meaningful minutes only makes him a piece to add . But as a 19 yr old he needs tall guys around him . Grant Williams should be a bench rotation player like he was in Boston . He's too small to be a big help for Lively ,the fact is Lively has to do more to cover up for his shortness at PF.

There's 2 teams better than Dallas in the Western Conference (Minnesota & Denver) and they have big frontlines that will always keep Dallas from being serious contenders.

Minny is a top team because they lucked into the #1 pick twice; Towns and Edwards. The Mavs have never been so lucky.

They also had common sense on the draft night of 2020 and took a very skilled player who can contribute.

Mavs have been lucky ,Vlade Divac was an idiot on passing on Luka Doncic . But Minny traded for Gobert and he's the leader so far as Defensive Player of the Year.
Mavs need to make a trade and get bigger ,Luka deserves it.

They need to get bigger but trading for Kuzma is **** stupid. For Kuzma’s price Dallas could just about get OG, and Siakam would be cheaper.

Dallas is capable of being a good defensive team. We had a top 10 defense 2 years ago with Luka, JB, and Dinwiddie playing heavy minutes. Kyrie is a better defender than JB or Dinwiddie. And Luka is playing better defense now than he was then. The difference is that DFS was in his prime that year, he was both the big wing that Grant is now but was also a great POA defender.

If Dallas wants to be a good defensive team they need to:

1. Improve the POA defense(Caruso, Pat Williams, Maybe what DFS has left in the tank, OG)

2. Get bigger in the second unit. (Young, athletic, long, strong, backup center) and a bench forward(Pat Williams, Deni Avdija)

3. Improve the defensive rebounding. Dallas really struggles to kill good defensive possessions by finishing with a defensive rebound. Taking away a few extra possessions a game by improving in rebounding will do a ton to help the defense.

POA for Denver is Jokic and Murray . These 3 guys arent going to stop anything . Minnesota has been the only team in the Western Conference to try to build a team to play against Denvers offense. Gobert is big enough to slow down Jokic alitte with Towns help. McDaniels is big enough to contest MPJ's jumper and Anthony Edwards can go mano e mano with Murray. I dont see where adding DFS or Caruso are big enough to make a difference .Denver and Minn dont play 3 guard lineups which makes getting another guard a bad move.

If Denver can play defense with Murray, Jokic and MPJ (worse defender than Luka) every team can play defense.
Hire a coach could be a good start.

Have they had any joy since winning the title/that team?
None and it won't be coming soon. Mid size cold weather market... yikes.

Also just like the Mavs they have missed on draft picks.

Finished winless in November.
Pistons are the reason Knicks were able to sign Brunson, they sold the Knicks 30 millions in cap space by eating 2 waivable players (kemba and Noel), and decent bench player in Burks, for measly 3-4 2nd round picks, their 1st was with the Knicks, and he didn't even bother ask for it.
This year, they need a shooting forward, instead of offering contract for CamJo, they helped the Nets shed salary by eating Joe Harris for 2 2nds, cap space Nets used to sign CamJo, the player they needed.
Wasted cap space on Marvin Bagley, and traded a shooting forward in Bey for a non-shooting center when he had Duren a Stewart + Bagley who also can play center.
There are GM mistake, and there is criminal negligence in roster building, Weaver belongs to the later, he screws his own team to help others.

I don't gamble, but I do think they are good, I'm not sure they'll make the PO...

LeBron James is still amazing, Devin Booker still can't handle double teams.

Pelicans scare me more than the Lakers, I'd like them to lose the game just to have more losses in RS.
