Re: RS 23/24 - Mavs @ Spurs (Oct 25)
Some take aways I had:
Lively is the best big Dallas has. There’s going to be growing pains but there is also gonna be growing which is exciting. I think he’s holding back some on defense so that he doesn’t get in to foul trouble. As he figures that out more his defense will get even better.
I don’t know if Maxi has lost a step, isn’t suited for full time 5, or if it was just a rough night for him. He wasn’t on par with where he normally is.
Grant is significantly better than Reggie and was worth every penny.
DJJ has 0 business playing minutes over Josh and probably maxi too. That is literally the dumbest **** ever. He is 4v5 offense.
Dallas’ starting 5 should clearly be Luka, Kyrie, Josh, Grant, Lively. How Kidd **** that up tonight is beyond me. And I’m normally a Kidd defender.

Maxi was never a 5, he's always been a 4 and he looked decent alongside Lively but hopeless at the 5 alone. Coach isn't doing players any favours playing them according to their weaknesses

Guys, i don't remember but was it Wemba game or Lively game????
He can play and he is better than scrub Powell right now.
If a rookie can has this impact then it was easy to upgrade our C spot but not for Cuban and Harrison past years
Great game by Grant too, we need a tough player like him. Good pick up.
Irving up and down. But he is clutch. We know.
THJ is a killer, 6th man is his role.
Josh not so good but Kidd rotations were horribles like ever.
Luka is Luka.
Maxi is washed. He has 10/15 minutes a game. No more.
DJJ can't play, only an idiot can start him.
Exum is a rotation RS player.
Best game ever by Powell. The toilets were perfect.
A W is a W but our defense in first half was horrible, of course Kidd experiment didn't help.
Like we know Irving-Josh-Luka-Grant-Lively is the best 5 man lineup.
But probably not so good to make some noise in the PO, the NBA is so stuck in these days.

Glad to see Lively make me eat some crow tonight. Hopefully he can keep it up and we wont have to use up precious resources for a starting caliber center.
Double-Double in first game is pretty impressive.

Too late for watching live those late games in the west.
Lively had a great game. Kidd was the worst in Mavs. Luka is physically in great shape. Kyrie looked somewhat off.
Important win for the start, although Spurs will be somewhere in the bottom, Wemby is far from ready and his game is too similar to KP's for all the hype he's getting.

Probably he can't be this all season long but it's normal for a rookie having up and down.
I can only immagine a Capela/Zubac/Ayton-Lively combo C

Re: RS 23/24 - Mavs @ Spurs (Oct 25)
We heard all preseason how Lively has been impressive, working hard with Chandler. We've seen flashes of him being great. It was evident he's probably already their best big guy.
So, naturally what Kidd decides to do in a real game? He starts freaking Maxi and DJJ over Lively and Green. At this point it's more like Kidd is playing 5D chess with himself rather trying to outsmart other coaches. Dude is seriously becoming a parody and a meme.
I don't think we give enough credit to Tyson Chandler. I said before if Lively is ready at game1, he probably did some magic with Lively. And he sure did look amazing next to Luka.

Very accurate recap here.
Don't want to get too excited about Lively, but what a game. Ky was off for most of it, but came up when really needed, Luka is Luka, and Grant was awesome.
Package THJ/Hardy for a SF who can D up and you have something here.

I didn’t watch the game last night, as it was at 4am in Europe, but why didn’t Seth play more time?

Grant played great defense on Wemby, was extremely physical, pushing and shoving, bodying him every time he got the ball, great 1st game.
Lively's weakness remains post defense, but it's a rare play, hinestly, I don't care, the layup drill under Mavs basket from last season remained this game any time he went off the floor.

Not enough minutes for all.... Our backcourt is stacked.
Seth, Hardy and Exum will play when someone is injuried probably...

Yeah Reggie would never be able to do what Grant did tonight.
I think Lively is being coached to cool it defensively right now because they know he’s their best center and don’t want such a young guy to get into foul trouble. As he figures out what he can and can’t do he will get to be more aggressive defending the rim. He is also still learning to rotations and can be a step late quite often. That will also get better.

Maxi and Tim gotta go. To the point I could care less what comes back i just can't watch these 2 anymore

Yea with Curry, this team really does not need Timmy. I think he should be the first to go. Maxi sadly does appear to have regressed, but we still need him i think as he's a betetr option than Powell/Holmes, and a backup to Grant

Good defense for 3 quarters last night from Dallas.
But the 1st quarter was a shoot around.

Re: RS 23/24 - Mavs @ Spurs (Oct 25)
I’m gonna live with Lively starting at Center and say we need a solid back up C. Our guys are just too small.
The league is lucky we didn’t get Capela or Zubac.
We need another High IQ 3 and D player.
I know everyone likes Green and I welcome his energy but he does A LOT of running around wildly that I wouldn’t mind replacing but I don’t think there is a player available that would make sense right now. We just need higher IQ players who understand the nuances of the game a bit more.
When the time comes and the right players are available, Hardy, THJ and Green are pieces I’m heavily willing to dangle for something good.
Grant did exactly what we expect from him. Definitely happy about that addition.
What is DJJ here for again??

Defensively he's light years ahead of KP, game changer on that end, offensively, we'll see, too early, young healthy KP was better, I think he's overhyped on that end.

Probably Kidd wants a new starting lineup every game (pre season included) for setting an hall of fame record.
