Re: Mavs 2016 Cap Sheet & Offseason Discussion
2 and 3 are the most likely scenario for us. I am okay with either option. But I don't want Parsons on untradeable contract. He only worths 16M per. And he will not be the face of the franchise. Howard will probably gain this role. He's to be okay with it and train himself up as an athlete and defender.
Scenario 1
C - Hassan Whiteside / Salah Merji / JaVale McGee
PF - Dirk Nowitzki / Dwight Powell / Tyshuan Prince (min)
SF - DeMarr DeRozan or Dwyane Wade or Chandler Parsons / Justin Anderson
SG - Wes Matthews / Jason Terry (min) / Devin Harris

Re: Mavs 2016 Cap Sheet & Offseason Discussion
Mike Conley (unlikely; he's Spurs bound)
17.5 PPG, 7.0 APG, 1.4 SPG per 36MIN
Mario Chalmers
17.1 PPG, 6.1 APG, 4.1 RPG, 2.3 SPG per 36MIN
DJ Augustin (texas)
17.8 PPG, 7.2 APG, 1.4 SPG per 36MIN
Deron Williams (texas)
15.7 PPG, 6.5 APG, 1.0 SPG per 36MIN
Ramon Sessions
17.5 PPG, 5.2 APG, 4.4 RPG, 1.0 SPG per 36MIN
Jeremy Lin (he'll get better offer elsewhere; and he jumped the ship last time)
16.1 PPG, 4.1 APG, 1.0 SPG per 36MIN
Maurice Williams (texas)
16.3 PPG, 4.7 APG per 36MIN
Matthew Dellavedova (restricted)
11.0 PPG, 6.5 APG per 36MIN
Raymond Felton
12.5 PPG, 4.7 APG per 36MIN
As for PG, I am okay with Chamlers, Augustin, DWill, Sessions, and so on. As Conley is unavailable, Chalmers is the only clear upgrade over DWill. Augustin can drive but his size will limit him somewhat. I am okay with DWill for home discount and spend most cap space on 3 and 5. If we opt to start Anderson, I am also okay with Wade and Chalmers. As there are weak free agent class this offseason, I think we can trade Harris or Barea for cap space and second rounder(s).

As there are plenty of options at swingman positions, I think we should address C and PG position first. Re: Mavs 2016 Cap Sheet & Offseason Discussion
As the cap room is restructured, I wonder if the price of late firsts and early seconds drop due to abundant cap space. Anyway, this team need energy guys and young talents badly. I hope Mark Cuban make efforts to net us some picks for years to come. We can't attract free agents without a promising young core. I do hope the Mavs has Justin Anderson in their long term plan. For example, DJ Augustin and Hassan Whiteside are young talents that can somewhat compete.

Re: Mavs 2016 Cap Sheet & Offseason Discussion
1. Trade Wes Matthews to OKC for Serge Ibaka
2. Renounce all free agents.
3. Sign DeMarr DeRozan (22M, 4 years), DJ Augustin (8M, 4 years, texas hometown discount), Joakim Noah (6M, 3 years), Marvin Williams (12M, 4 years), Deron Williams (6M, 3 years, texas hometown discount), Dirk Nowitzki (min, 2 years, PO), Jason Terry (min, 2 years, TO), Tyshuan Prince (min, 1 year)
4. Trade Devin Harris to Brooklyn for Bojan Bogdanovic
5. Draft Michael Gbinije at 46th pick
6. Match Powell's offer if it is not crazy.
7. Sign an elite shooting coach to work with our jumpers
8. Train up Anderson, DeRozan, Powell, Noah's shooting.
9. Train Anderson's handle.
10. Teach Powell on zone defense to improve his decision-making in switching situation.
11. Revive Ibaka and Noah.
12. Make a trade (Powell? Merji? Bogdanovic? Barea?) by mid-season when opportunities come.
C - Serge Ibaka / Joakim Noah / Salah Merji
PF - Dirk Nowitzki / Dwight Powell / Tyshuan Prince
SF - Marvin Williams / Justin Anderson / Michael Gbinije (46th pick)
SG - DeMar DeRozan / Bojan Bogdanovic / Jason Terry
PG - DJ Augustin / Deron Williams / Jose Barea
REASONS:
1. We get much younger with Ibaka (over Zaza), Marvin Williams, DeRozan (over Matthews), Augustin (over DWill), Noah and Bogdanovic (over Harris).
2. We get much better shooting percentage from the arc. Both Marvin and Augustin hits 40% from arc. Bogdanovic shoots 38%.
3. We get experienced player who can play well under RC, e.g. Prince, Terry and DWill.
4. We are no longer struggling to slash and score under the basket. We've improved coast-to-coast speed and add fast breaks into our arsenal. The spacing is exceptionally good as well.
5. We get a deep team.
6. We get better in term of steals and blocks. So we can control the tempo rather easily.
7. We can improve with young guys who has a skill or two away from starter-worthy.
8. We please Dirk by contending not at the expense of rebuilding.
9. We have the best medical staff to revive the career of Ibaka and Noah.
10. We have got continuity at backcourt with DWill, Barea and Jet.
11. We have got flexibility as DeRozan, Marvin Williams, Prince and Gbinjie can play multiple positions.
12. Noah is able rebounder. And Ibaka has been above average rebounder at 5. And all centers are shot-blocking presences.
13. We have got full-shutdown lineup (Noah, Ibaka, Williams, DeRozan, Anderson) and all-3 point lineup (Dirk 37%, Marvin 40%, Bogdanovic 38%, Barea 38%, Augustin 41%).
14. We can potentially improve our free throw opportunities and cut down turnovers due to much better spacing.

Jose Barea 18 17.4 38.5 44.6 77.1 0.6 2.7 3.3 6.5 0.6 0 2.4 2.4
This team averages 108.7 PPG, 42.5 RPG, 23.3 APG, 5.9 SPG, 5.8 BPG, 12 TO, 17 PF
As Ibaka rebound much better without Adams, I suspect we're indeed better in rebounding.
We just lose 1 steal but improved in all other areas. And the shooting percentage is significantly better.
And I think RC can help Noah like what he does with Zaza.
Due to better spacing, we can shoot better (except free throw due to poor free throw shooters from C) and draw more fouls.
I also expect a better assist number due to higher percentage of shots on target.
So I expect us to average 112 PPG, 45 RPG, 26 APG, 6 SPG, 6 BPG, 12 TO, 17 PF afterall when chemistry grow.
Beware that GSW averages 118 PPG, 46.2 RPG, 28.9 APG, 8.4 SPG, 6.1 BPG, 15.2 TO, 22 PF
This team is pretty closed to this standard. We have a legitimate chance to win.
And we are significantly better defensively with elite shot blockers in the paints and good defenders at swingman positions with lockdown defense with less fouls per game. That means better perimeter defense and paint defense. I expect a significant drop in opponents' percentage. If our young guys can improve their shooting (from the arc and from foul line), we are already pretty good as a team.

Those are elite team's number. We grow from here.

I hope Mark Cuban make efforts to net us some picks for years to come. We can't attract free agents without a promising young core. I do hope the Mavs has Justin Anderson in their long term plan. For example, DJ Augustin and Hassan Whiteside are young talents that can somewhat compete.
The cap jumped, but the rookie scale stayed the same. Meaning, rookie contracts become more valuable because they will be bargains compared to what some mediocre players will be getting paid under the rising cap.

We should add Tyler Johnson from the Heat to potential PG targets. He is restricted, but young, can hit the 3, is athletic. But there are almost no PGs in this FA class, maybe just resign Felton?
I really don't want to give Deron a large contract.
I can live with JJ starting if we can sign Bazemore and Dwight:
D12
Simba
Matthews
Baze
JJ
Not even counting Dirk, that is a so-so offense/great defense lineup, don't you think? If we add Deron they could switch a lot on defense.

Tyler Johnson is really intriguing, that guy always stands out whenever I watched him with the Heat. Such energy, athleticism and he can shoot too. He is not a true point guard though and is undersized.
Unfortunately, the Heat are firmly in control of his future and only a crazy offer would take him away. Since he is subject to the arenas provision, here's a graphic with the max contract he may be offered:

Since Miami doesn't have much flexibility with Whiteside and Wade as free agents, with Bosh and Dragic huge contracts, they will match any offer, unless it's a really crazy one. And if it's a crazy one, then you really don't want to be the one signing him.

He's obviously not worth a max offer, but I would love it if the Mavs made him an offer that would at least make Mia have to think twice. If only to mess with Mia.

I am content if we end up with the combination of Biyombo, Bazemore, DJ Augustin and Noah. Pretty good young core for us.

Tim Frazier is available for really cheap contract. I know nothing about his defense but his skillsets as a PG is solid. He dominates the NBDL before getting called up by NOP. He still plays with impressive number on NBA floor. He averages 16.1 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 9.2 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 2.9 TO, 3.2 PF with 45.0 FG%, 41.9 3P% and 76.3% per 36 minutes for NOP. That's ridiculous. His number is actually better than DJ Augustin. He's only 25 year's old. He looks to be an athletic freak like Shane Larkin. And he's from Texas. We're an ideal spot for him. If we re-sign DWill, we'd better sign him as well.

Re: Mavs 2016 Cap Sheet & Offseason Discussion
I had a vision (completely hypothetical like me marrying Beyonce), but The Warriors lose Game 5 due to something with Draymond Green who wants more of a prominent role than being the Warriors #3 guy, the Dub's love his playmaking abilty and want a stretch 4 on the roster, hence they give Dallas a call about a S&T Chandler parsons for Draymond Green. Dallas accepts
GS gets their stretch 4 who can help Steph with facilitating duties, Dirk gets his Shawn Marion back but with better PG like skills.
But of course this is all just a dream.

I mentioned Frazier a while back too. Its hard to tell if he just put good numbers on a bad team late in the season or not. That being said I would take the risk over Felton/Harris.
Larry Sanders show was also mentioned in a prior post. I think he is playing in a VCU game and might attempt a comeback. Im all for Biyombo who may being earning himself too much of a pay raise and if that happened again I would take the risk on Sanders.

Larry Sanders would be a good pickup, but who knows where his head is gonna be at when/if he comes back to the NBA... Regardless, I would be extremely happy if he was on our roster for next season though just cause of the potential it could possibly bring.. I think Dallas should set their sights on Whiteside or Dwight over Sanders for obvious reasons, but if we could sign him and Conley while bringing back Parsons, Dirk, and D-Will or maybe getting a cheap vet like Bazemore.. That would be a great lineup

I wonder if we can get a 9-12 pick by taking on salary. Toronto, Utah and Pheonix pick could be available.

Mavs Expect David Lee To Help Recruit
The Mavericks expect the positive experience that David Lee had with the organization this season will aid it in recruiting free agents this offseason, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com writes. “You know, we acquired David Lee two months ago. I don’t remember the exact date, but when you acquire a player like that that’s been a two-time All-Star and has been in some successful organizations, you know, you want him to have a great experience,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “He did, and he helped us get to the playoffs. We wouldn’t have got to the playoffs without David Lee, and the word spreads. You know, veterans like him know other veterans, and the word gets out that Dallas is a high-level organization. And we take great pride in that.”

He is only of interest if it's on a short term deal.

I am interested in 6M, 4 years' deal with team option by the end of 2nd year.
