We did not have to renounce anything to place the bid, but we had to be able to get below the cap to win the bid. We can do that by renouncing Terry, all the other vet min guys, the MLE, the BAE and the TPEs.

Terry isn't automatically renounced due to signing with Boston?

And you said a mouth full on this one. The FO is looking more like the true genius' that Cuban claims they are. In 3 days alone, I say hats off to Cuban and Donnie.

You can basically say we turned Chandler & Mihinmi alone into Collison, Jones, Kaman and Brand... Amazing! That's a trade I would do 100 times out of 100. And they still have the potential of adding Scola too.

Chandler\Mihinmi<<<<<<<<<<<<<Collison, Jones, Kaman, Brand (hands down if they add Scola)

I want to go for Scola but at the same time I don't know if it's wise to get stuck with his contract long term.

Scola at 5mil a year is more insane than Mavs catching a 2.1mil break on Brand. I say go for it. Scola produces at the price of 9-11mil a year.

I meant insane as in insanely good.

If we can finish the offseason by getting Scola (barring any significant knee damage) and re-signing Delonte then I would give the offseason grade an A

Haha, I'm glad we understand each other now.

I do agree that in terms of production whoever gets Scola will be paying far less for what he contributes on the court. But there is still the issue of it being a long-term deal. Houston seemed to have problem trading him, but then again, I suppose Scola at half value will probably be able to be traded very easily. He could be packaged for an attempt to get Dwight. Regardless, I think he is an excellent back up PF and I am excited to see what the Mavs do in combining Dirk/Scola/Kaman and Brand. Easily the best PF/C rotation in the NBA.

Me too. But I think we need a 3 point shooter on the roster ... but then again maybe that is suppose to be Vince Carter, lol.

Kaman(check),Brand(check),Scola(TBA) and Delonte(via bird rights).

Then sign Calderon and go over the cap but below the tax threshold.

He has not been announced in Boston to my knowledge and no official signing has occured yet on nba.com's transaction list. At this point, I am under the assumption that he has not officially signed yet.

Got it.

So all the Mavs have left is the 4.8M to sign players. A minimum bid for Scola would have to be around 3.3M probably.

West would have to sign here for very cheap again...

Do we still have our BAE after we go over the cap?

I honestly thought Brand was going for 5-6 mil dollar range. 2.1 mil for a former all-star with a one year contract who is, I think, number 1 in post defense... simply amazing by Cuban and Donnie. I knew it, there's no way an owner and a GM goes 11 years of 50 win seasons without being creative the way they've been.

I'm not sure if the Mavericks will place a bid on Scola. Eventually minutes won't be there for everyone, but it would be intriguing to see what Carlisle would do with that "deep" front court.

I'm hot and cold about Calderon, love his one year contract, but I want to see a quick young point guard to actually start for the Mavs. Once Carlisle get his veteran, then Collison is back in the dog house.

All in all, AWESOME move by Cuban and Donnie. Hope there is more to come.

The best part about landing Brand is that we'll finally have a guy come in at PF when Dirk is resting who will provide a solid offensive and defensive game. Brand is still a very good offensive rebounder. In Philly (his declining years) he never averaged under 2 per game.

Throw in the fact that he and Kaman know each others games from their clippers days (former starting front court) and this is fantastic. They may not be the same players as they were then, but the biggest issue we've had over the last couple of years is when Dirk is off the floor, we get rolled.

I really really like this move. Adding two bigs that can put the ball in the hole was really important. Even in our championship season, with Tyson there we were still very one dimensional in the post offensively. Kaman/Brand fixes that issue and I think that is going to take a lot of pressure off Dirk at his age now.

Getting Scola for less than 15/3 would be excellent but I'd like Wright to get some minutes..

I hope they're able to sign some shooters though. Shannon Brown, Randy Foye, Courtney Lee and Belinelli all come to mind.

I think there is a good chance we get Scola for 3.3m a year for 3 years which is the minimum bid. If none of the teams with capspace bid more than 2.1m for Brand, who is on a one year deal, why would they pay more for Scola? He is Dallas' if Dallas wants him. I think it's probably a good idea to bid on Scola if we can. We all know Carlisle loves his small ball, so Brand will get some time at center. Scola can play next to Brand during those small ball sets when Dirk is resting. Kaman is a little injury prone too, so his minutes will need to be watched. It's very possible that all four of them average around 24-25 minutes a night. On more competitive nights, Dirk and Kaman might approach 30 and Brand and Scola 20. A very competitive, well rested big man rotation is a very, very good thing to have. You can never have too many big guys who can play. They will be well rested for the playoffs.

Maybe I am over-optimistic, but I really think if Scola joins and we get a decent perimeter shooter than we can make another deep playoff run. I feel this team can become superior to the Clippers and Grizzlies and become a top four seed and advance out of the first round at a minimum. If Marion doesn't decline and Collison shows us what he showed the world when he played in New Orleans, then the sky is the limit. I really think the success of this team depends on Collison providing all-star level guard play, but by talent and size alone I think we are at least a second round team.

You got to give credit to your GM and owner, they did a really good job this offseason.

Cuban and Nelson most certainly did a good job. Not that this was their plan B, but it's worked out nicely, and we actually have a solid group of players that should keep things interesting.
