Re: Whiteside stays in Miami. What next?
Let's put it that way. If Joakim gets 18M per, Howard probably deserved the asking price. Not because of his skills but because how the new cap work out. We can always put up big money just for Dirk's sake. It's not really too bad if he tenders a 3 year offers beyond the price Dwight's asking for. Then, bring back D-Will on 3 year deal. Next year, we start stocking draft picks then. This season, let's focus on Dirk's windows first. I don't think we should rebuild as long as Dirk wants to compete. I started to watch the NBA basically the same year Dirk entered the league. I am always a fan of Dirk's personality and professional style. If he leaves, then I probably won't watch any NBA games ever. But it's up to Dirk. If he wants to move on, then that's another story. I still think the decision not maxing out CP's right. I am alway skeptic that all DJ drama and Memphis actions are indeed his plot. So as two straight missed playoff in a row. We've to move on from him for any chance to win anything. Maybe he's a good player. But not for the Mavs. He may probably not play hard as long as he's a Mavs.

Or we can bring back Tyson Chandler now. It seems to me that his contract is not that awful. Even Joakim gets 18M under the new cap. Maybe we bring back Monta Ellis as well. Then we re-sign DWill and keep some powder for next offseason without a waste of Dirk's prime. Or we contract some players who'll surely leave. e.g. Pau Gasol, Luol Deng, Dwight Howard and so on. Just manage to give ourselves a two-year windows.

I expect some teams to regret a couple of years later when nearly all teams are over the cap.

How's it a great news at all? All key free agents get signed already. I'm a little surprised with his decision. He doesn't seem to confident in himself. He opts for 4 millions extra money to play with injured Chris Bosh. I think he'll regret very soon. He'll waste his prime in Miami. However, we're a bit upset, too. We miss out a guy with potential to be a dominant center.
So he's supposed to play with ancient Dirk instead? He chose Miami because they offered him more money and he's comfortable there. He also has some good young players to work with. Josh Richardson, Justise Winslow, and Tyler Johnson, along with Whiteside, are a good group of NBA players. Pat Riley knows how to build a team around a center and he's obviously comfortable with he and Spolestra running the show.
Good luck in free agency. Hope you guys can rebuild on the fly...

Now that he's gone plan B should be a complete rebuild. Save your money and If Dirk wants to explore his options he should do so. If he decides to leave see if a sign and trade can be worked out to bring back a draft pick. If Dirk wants to come back pay him huge money on a 1 year deal. Go into next off season with a high lotto pick and even more money than you have this off season to spend.
So for me it's all about team tank now.

Seriously, its time to give up on the FA pipe dreams and build the team around the draft and trades, enough of this.

If the Mavs get Mike Conley, then they should pursue Howard. If not, then just go after some young talent and rebuild.

^ Getting Conley now for a 4 year max deal wouldn't even make sense.

That is what the need to do. I am tired of going after the big fish and missing, and signing the leftovers for one year deals. We have gotten some good deals on leftovers, but they tend to leave after their short contract because we don't court them to stay. Instead, we go after the next big fish. Last year we lost Chandler, Ellis, Rondo (if he counts), and Aminu. This year we will lose Parsons and probably Williams and Pachulia. What do we have after all this? Wes Mathews because he was coming off an injury when we signed him.

They lost them, or they let them leave? The only one they lost was Aminu. They let Chandler leave to pursue DJ, and they were ready to move on from Ellis. Now that we know they aren't getting Whiteside they should bail on trying to sign Conley and they should let both DWill and Zaza leave. Bringing both guys back (along with Dirk) would likely make them good enough to compete for the 8th seed. That would be the absolute worst thing they could do. They need to tank hard. From what I've read the next draft will be one of the best in years. Tank hard, save your money and get a top 5 pick next year and have a TON of money for FA next off season.

Whiteside was never going to sign here. Florida also doesn't have a state income tax and I think an overwhelming majority of free agents would prefer South Beach as a location. Miami also has a rosier outlook franchise wise. Dallas does NOT have the pieces to entice players to come here. Batum picked Charlotte over Dallas. Charlotte. Let that sink in.

Convert municipal and agricultural waste to refined natural gas. Sell the refined natural gas to gas companies. Use the money to provide a monthly basic income to people that earn less than $28,000 a year.

DING DING DING.
This ride is 100% over now and no one over the age of 25 should be signed.
Anderson,Powell, Hammons, and 1-maybe 2 draft picks if they can trade for one even if its a late pick.

I agree. In the high likelihood that we do not sign Conley, then we just need to tank. If Dirk wants to stay around, then sign him for a 1 year max contract. Else, use the cap space to acquire young talent if possible. Some team might need to pawn off a bad contract that has a year left to sign a player. Pawn that bad contract here as long as you give us a young talent or draft pick in the deal.

They should convince Dirk that Golden State is his best option and see if they are willing to do a sign and trade for a pick. Target some young FA's with potential and start Hammonds, Powell, Anderson, Matthews, and a young PG. Basically tank HARD.

Can we just trade for Tyson Chandler now?
Renouce everyone's rights and trade our first+filler for Ty Chan.
