In dallas the future is NOW!! The presence of Luka Doncic makes that possible. But, the mavs clearly need upgrades outside of Luka and KP (hopefully he is 100% healthy and remains healthy).
As a bulls fan and Luka fan (which makes me now a bandwagon Dallas fan which started on day 1 last year), I see what both teams have done well.
Dallas has the perfect superstar-Luka. And a good #2-KP. They now need off ball players that hustle, play tenacious team D, and can make open shots, and help with some play making. Essentailly Dallas needs two all around 2-way players. Which brings me to the Bulls who have found those 2 perfect role players this past offseason in Otto Porter and Tomas satoransky.
The perfect young team is a combination of both rosters. This team below can win 63 games (for the next decade) and be a strong title contender for the NBA championship.
-Luka
-Satoransky
-Otto Porter
-KP
-(any good defensive center)
I bring this up because OP Jr. is waaaaaay over paid for his role playing 3rd fiddle role. and is a free agent this year. And the bulls just drafted a PG (the same position Satoransky plays).
So how does the Cuban "get" otto and sato from Chicago?
1. Sato:
-like i said, he plays PG and the bulls just drafted a PG at #6 that they want to win the starting position badly. The bulls are also tired of losing (for now...due to loss of interest in the product). So if coby white plays extremely well. and Krid Dunn does too...then the door is open to acquire satoransky who can share play making with doncic. and both are will passers and both will likely be 40% 3pt shooter if shooting more off ball with fresher legs. Sato already is a 40% 3pt shooter.
-IMO a back court of sato and Luka would be synergistic. the individual parts are already really darn good...especially luka...but luka would be even more deadly if he could play off ball more...rest his legs a bit...and actually be on the court with someone that will pass him the ball back down in the post or for a corner 3 where luka looks to be a 40-45% 3pt shooter going forward. sato is what he is. a great 2ndary playmaker who makes shots and plays very solid team D.
-while a a sato upgrade alone for most teams might be worth 1-4 wins on dallas i believe he could be worth 5-10 wins as dallas speciffically needs a major upgrade in the back court with luka THAT WONT TAKE A LOT OF SHOTS...but make a high clip of the ones he does take. Sato does NOT make mistakes and WILL MOVE THE BALL. --all of which is VERY NEEDED on a dallas team that has Luka and KP.
- these 3 alone make dallas a 48-54 win team IMO.
--now if Otto porter wants a HUGE payday (LIKELY) and the notoriously stingy bulls front office balks at giving it to him then Cuban should come in and offer a TON OF FUTURE #1 DRAFT PICKS for both Otto and Tomas.
The bulls would want at least 2 unprotected #1 draft picks as well as some decent value players like Brunson, broekoff, Kleber, and Finney smith as well as to take back some dead contracts like Dunn.
Cuban could also offer otto porter a max contract in the summer. it would be an over pay but you get your 3rd option that is a 15-18 ppg scorer that shoots 40% 3pt and is a very very good defender.
If KP & Luka Are Dirk & Nash, Then Who Is Finley?

I have a pretty good feeling about Delon Wright. If he can put up 13/5/5 with good-elite defense, taking the best opposing guard, that is a real difference maker on this team. Can't stress how important the defense is for this team.
Satoransky is not an upgrade over Wright. Delon is a very good passer in his own right, and his combination of other skills (athleticism, defense, rebounding), is more valuable overall and fitting next to Luka than Satoransky's shooting. Especially that ability to defend the best opposing guard. That alone will give Luka the abilty to concentrate his energy more on offensive duties.
And no thanks on offering 2 unprotected firsts for Satoransky and Porter Jnr, much less anything else. Yuck. You do that kind of trade getting back a top 25 NBA player, not decent to good starters. You wanna swap out one of those guys for LaVine, maybe there's something to talk about.
I think the PG position is just fine as is. Getting a versatile 3 who can be a positive on offense and defense, as well as a 4-5 who can switch out and guard the perimeter would be nice. Just not as confident in Jackson as some others are. I think he's physically weak, which affects his one on one defense and he's also a terrible rebounder. I know Powell is slated to start, but I don't like the Powell/KP combination defensively. Starting DFS next to KP works much better from a defensive standpoint, though it's obviously not near as nice offensively.
I think we make a nice trade at the trade deadline using our TPE and/or Lee's expiring for something useful, and sign a good FA in the off season.
