If you ask yourself, is Wood better than Powell at C. If the answer is yes, then it's an immediate upgrade, no question. Nico plans to roll with it and try to run it back. This means Brunson will be re-signed for sure.

Whats even better is Wood is ALOT better than Powell. Production and Talent wise. This will be a larger upgrade than people think. We still have a ton of time to make some move and go after some pieces they might already have their eye on.

I hope Wood ends up being a better defender than what I have seen.

Did they need to include Boban? You need some guys to stay on the bench and be cheerleaders. Boban was perfect for that with Theo.

I doubt this is the last move they make. I would not be surprised to see them bring in another Center.

That is a great deal for DAL. A total no brainer, a very late 1st round pick plus useless expiring contracts net you a potential 20 & 10 big man, you always take this deal and run.

This is a deal we just couldn't afford to pass up. It's literally bench cheerleaders + 26th pick for Wood. No matter how you feel about Wood and his attitude, there is no denying that he's a starting level big. He literally averages more points and rebounds then all 4 players in the deal combined. Low risk, high reward.

Fantastic deal for us, Wood is about as good as we could possibly hope for at C. The only thing I don't like is his FT % but besides that this is great. He can score and rebound and hit 3s at a high percentage, none of which our current C rotation can do well.

Plus we create a ton of roster spots heading into FA with "playing with Luka" hopefully for the first time being a drawing card. We pretty much offloaded all the dead roster spaces and landed a good starting 5 at the cost of a near enough 2nd round pick that we would've wasted anyway. I'm stoked.

Is Wood a capable 5? Are the Mavs still looking for a rim protector? Anyway, the Mavs finally combined Powell and Kleber offensively in Wood. It is undeniable that Wood fits the offense very well. While Wood may not provide instant defensive upgrade, rebounding upgrade is expected.

Offensively, Wood is even more poised than Ayton or Bamba. With Luka around, this an instant and steady 3rd option in Wood. This could make things difficult to contend Luka.

This is a superb trade! The Mavs are getting a very mobile big that can shoot 3-pointers, rebound, and sometimes block a shot. For me he seems like the perfect fit. I can't wait for the season to start.

Nico understood his errors and dumped Boban/Browns and others scrubs that he signed last year.
Dallas can't draft so no problemi for the pick.

Good move. Great job Nico.

Wood only played with Harden for 8(?) games or less. Here is a highlight from one game. When you look at what Luka is able to do with Powell, I can't wait to see what Wood will be able to do. It will be a nightmare for the other teams to defend.

The Mavs just need another wing player and I think they're set.

Wood is earning $14M versus Gobert's $41M. Just use the difference on a good wing player. I'd say good deal.

At this price, who could say no, basically players who never see court and #26 for a good offensive center with range.
Defense wins draft lotteries!
Fortune favours the bold, so it ducked Nico Harrison.

Exactly. Best part is, Mavs still have THJ who could still be attractive to someone AND Green AND we still don't know what happens with Brunson, maybe a S&T? Dinwiddie raised his vaule a lot since trade, etc... So maybe there are still some moves that can significantly upgrade this team.

I still can't believe they managed to get Wood for these players.

we definitely are going to be spoiled if he can get 20/10 guys for the bottom of the barrel guys we included.

3 roster spots to find role players for and now that Luka is an MVP candidate the signing of ring chasing free agents at discounted salaries will begin.

It would be insane if Zach Lavine changes his mind and decides to ask for a sign and trade to Dallas.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
